6 Reasons Why Lagos is an Amazing City to Live in

I’ve lived all my years in Lagos and here are my experiences why Lagos is an amazing city to live in. Lagos is characterized by vitality, excellence, bittersweet experiences, late nights and early mornings, incomparable vibes, hustle and bustle, traffic, groove, the survival of the fittest and a propelling atmosphere.

The city wins the award for all these, but this article would be incomplete without the mention of the fact that Lagos is one cool amazing place to live in. These experiences keep people in Lagos and at the same time out of Lagos. People in Lagos would often not want to settle in any other place whilst people outside Lagos will not want to settle in Lagos.

Lagos is a very active city as most times, you can barely differentiate night from day, a weekend from a work day or a working day from a public holiday.

Lagos is home of the people, it is Nigeria’s center of excellence. Even as a Lagosian, sometimes you find it hard to keep up as each day the city plays a new tune. All these make it a fun, fantastic and an amazing place to live.

Here is a list of why I think Lagos is an amazing place to live;

1. Lagos is a Global City of the People

One of the best things about Lagos is the people. It’s home to a variety of people, you’ll find Ghanaians, Togolese, Liberians, Chinese, and so many other people from different countries. and yet there is little or no discrimination. In Lagos, there is a great level of cultural mixture, you’ll find intermarriage and intertribal associations. The city accommodates various class, and tribe, you see the Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Igalas, Itsekiris, Ijaws, e.t.c

In Lagos, you’ll find high net worth individuals, decision makers, businessmen and women, civil servants, professors, lecturers, and professional amidst others. not forgetting the folks who also add to the colour of Lagos, the food sellers, clerics, tea sellers, shoe repairers, tailors, local barbers, and countless others.

Generally, the people who live in Lagos can be friendly, fun and full of energy.

It provides the opportunity to build your career and rise to the pinnacle of your chosen profession.

The streets of Lagos have a way of catering for its own, If you truly know your craft and do well in it, you have a market to sell it in Lagos. I have seen people from other parts of the country come to Lagos just to earn a living, forget the fact that there are no jobs.

Lagos is regarded by many as a city that never sleeps, unlike other states that by 6 pm every shop has closed down, living in Lagos is a different ball game entirely, The street is still alive at 1 am, the street shops are open at any time be it early morning or late night.

The nightlife in Lagos is the most fun part of Lagos, especially during the weekend. For fun, people go to clubs, late night movies from 11 pm till dawn, lounges, the beach, barbeque spot, nkwobi joint,  you can’t be bucked up in Lagos and be bored. You’re not living in Lagos if you haven’t had an encounter with the bus drivers, agberos, or conductors. If you haven’t hustled for bus, come down from traffic to continue your journey, queued to board an overloaded bus then maybe you’re not a true Lagosian.

The most common forms of public transport in Lagos include taxis, buses which are popularly called danfos and LT, motorbike or okadas, and BRT. All of these forms of transport will give any foreigner a feel of Lagos lifestyle.

6. Lagos Helps You Dream it and Live it

Lagos is the right place to live when it comes to developing one’s inner and outer strength and capacity. Most Lagosians learn street sense easily as the survival technique in Lagos is to be street smart. Lagos is also a place that pushes her residents to be independent and conscious of one’s self and environment. The Lagos story is quite amazing. Lagos has a subtle way of giving hope to the hopeless and helping you make your dreams come true. You’d be shocked the number of high profile people that started from the bottom in Lagos. Lagos makes you brave and when you retire at night, you’d be eager to start the next morning with a renewed vigor
Having said all of these, Lagos is simply a place of self-discovery and great encouragement for self-actualization.

Wow! Indeed Lagos is one of the most interesting cities to live in. You haven’t lived fully in Lagos until you learn to jump into a moving Molue also know as Funky train. How about struggling to jump into a moving Keke. Yet we love Lagos.

I haven’t been to Lagos ,but the one thing that turns me off is the traffic. I wouldn’t want to spend half my life in traffic just because I want to live in Lagos. Asides that, I think its a very lovely place to find yourself . lots of opportunities around.
