The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) has inducted Ronald Adams, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), alongside 19 other professionals, as Fellows of the Society, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to chemical engineering.
The induction took place over the weekend at NSChE’s 55th Annual Conference and General Meeting, held in Enugu. The event marked one of the highest honours the Society confers on individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to the engineering profession.
NSChE National President, Bayo Olarewaju-Alo, urged the new Fellows to continue inspiring young engineers, shaping industrial policies, and driving sustainable growth through ethical practice and innovation. He described their work as critical to Nigeria’s evolving industrial landscape, particularly in energy and technology sectors.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Ronald Adams expressed gratitude for the recognition and promised to justify the confidence placed in him. “Chemical engineers are needed today more than ever. As society evolves rapidly, these professionals are vital to navigating challenges in energy and related sectors,” he said.
Adams highlighted the strong partnership between SNEPCo and NSChE, noting that the company continues to support members through professional training and development. “We share the vision of NSChE and remain committed to advancing the mission of the Society,” he added.
Adams’ career has been marked by several historic achievements. A graduate in chemical engineering from the University of the West Indies, he also holds an international MBA in Strategic Planning from Herriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. In Trinidad and Tobago, he held multiple leadership roles and made history, as the first local to serve as CEO of Atlantic LNG in its 25-year history.
Adams arrived in Nigeria to take up the role of Managing Director at SNEPCo, becoming the first non-Nigerian to lead the company. His tenure coincides with another historic milestone for SNEPCo, the Bonga deep-water field produced its one billionth barrel of oil, underscoring Nigeria’s growing presence in the global energy market.
Adams is now driving the implementation of the $5-billion Bonga North project, aimed at expanding production and sustaining Nigeria’s deep-water oil legacy. His leadership has also earned recognition beyond Nigeria; earlier this year, the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) awarded him an Award of Excellence for visionary leadership in deep-water production.
Industry observers note that Adams’ induction as a Fellow of NSChE not only celebrates his individual achievements but also reflects the growing role of international expertise in Nigeria’s energy sector. His vision aligns with the country’s push for sustainable energy development, capacity building, and global competitiveness.
