Through the BNI MASOANDRO project, the first Malagasy bank sets an example and takes a big step towards the energy transition.

Like the Ilakaka office located at PK 218 of the RN7, now equipped with modern facilities that partially supply it with solar energy.

Bold project. After the inauguration of the Antanimasaja Green Agency in Mahajanga in November 2018, BNI MADAGASCAR is now moving up a gear with this bold and innovative project. In the short term, it involves equipping 40% of its agencies with solar power plants, in partnership with Green Energy Solutions, a creator of energy solutions.

The BNI MASOANDRO project is above all a valuable contribution to the environment. “As a responsible and responsible bank, we wanted to include an ecological approach in our development strategy that responds to optimal energy management”, explains Alexandre MEY, CEO of BNI MADAGASCAR. “Thanks to this program, 37% of the energy consumed by the agencies concerned will be clean and renewable. The use of generators will be divided by five on all the Agencies equipped with photovoltaic installations, this leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions and therefore in the greenhouse effect, “he said.

Significant investment.

For BNI MADAGASCAR, BNI MASOANDRO is an important investment but, given the challenges, the game is worth the effort. The project enables it to meet the challenge of financial inclusion in the best possible conditions, which is reflected, among other things, by a sustained pace of deployment of new agencies in remote and isolated areas of the country. An approach that has already enabled this bank to become, in a few years, the first banking network with 93 branches throughout the territory. Ilakaka’s branch is a strong symbol of the bank’s proximity policy.

BNI MADAGASCAR being the only banking institution to set up in this locality with high mining potential. Still according to Alexandre Mey, “with the BNI MASOANDRO project, the first Malagasy bank is to become a self-producer of solar energy and benefits from an important guarantee capable of ensuring the continuity of its services 24 hours a day, without risk of load shedding. It will make substantial savings on its energy costs. This renewable energy is less expensive in comparison with that of the JIRAMA network. It is also cheaper compared to the generator ”.

We dare to hope that BNI MADAGASCAR’s bet for a better future with less carbon will be emulated in the development of the country’s economic activities. Let us lay our environmental footprint for future generations, ”concluded Barijaona Ramaholimihaso, Advisor to the Director-General of BNI MADAGASCAR in charge of environmental, social and governance issues.
