Products of fuel worth Ghc194,670 has perished to a fire outbreak at the truck park of the Buipe Depot of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) in the late hours of last Friday, January 3, 2020.
According to the Head of Corporate Communications and External Affair Mr. Adjei Marlick, the Buipe Depot is the central fuel holding point of BOST serving the Savana, Northern, North-East, Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana.
In order to put an end to media speculation, Mr. Adjei Marlick indicated that the fire occurred at the truck park of the Buipe Depot and not within the depot; adding that the fire started late in the evening and it took a combined force of the depot technical staff and fire officers from the Damongo and Tamale Fire Stations to bring it under control around 10 p.m.
In a press statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Adjei Marlick indicated that two out of the four (4) BRVs which were loaded with petroleum products were considerably damaged; thus, the two trucks which contained 36,000 litres of diesel (AGO) and 36,000 litres of petrol (PMS) respectively are considerably damaged.
“At the current price of Ghc5.41/litre, the value of the product lost is estimated at Ghc194,760.00. The affected BRVs belonged to Ghana Oil Company Limited, GOIL (3) and BF Energy (1)”, the statement read.
The Head of Corporate Communications and External Affair hinted that the exact cause of the fire outbreak is not ascertained as an investigation is underway; assuring to furnish the public with details once the technical team completes its investigation.
He further assured the general public that the BOST strategic fuel for the Northern Regions and Ghana as a whole is intact as there will be no shortage of fuel in spite of the damages.
