DeepOcean Secures Subsea Services Contract at Woodside’s Sangomar Field

DeepOcean, a top subsea services provider, has received a major contract from Woodside Energy for operations at the Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 project on the Senegal coast. This agreement signifies a crucial advancement in the progression of this key offshore oil field, strengthening DeepOcean’s footprint in the West African area.

The Sangomar Field, located around 100 kilometres south of Dakar, marks Senegal’s inaugural offshore oil development initiative and is poised to have a significant impact on the nation’s growing energy industry. Woodside, serving as the project lead, has joined forces with DeepOcean to utilize their vast knowledge in subsea construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair solutions.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Woodside on the Sangomar project,” said Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean. “This contract underscores our capability to deliver high-quality subsea services and supports our strategy to expand our operations in the West African market.”

The scope of work for DeepOcean includes the installation of subsea infrastructure, including flowlines, umbilicals, and subsea production systems. The company will also be responsible for performing various inspection, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure the long-term integrity and efficiency of the subsea facilities.

The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 project is designed to produce approximately 100,000 barrels of oil per day, significantly boosting Senegal’s oil production capacity. The project is anticipated to commence production by 2025, with substantial progress expected over the coming months as DeepOcean and other contractors mobilize resources and equipment.

“Securing DeepOcean for this critical phase of the Sangomar development is a testament to their proven track record in subsea operations,” said Meg O’Neill, CEO of Woodside Energy. “Their expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery of this project, which is vital for Senegal’s economic growth and energy independence.”

The collaboration between DeepOcean and Woodside is also seen as a positive development for the local economy. The project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and foster skill development among the Senegalese workforce. Both companies have committed to adhering to stringent environmental and safety standards, ensuring minimal impact on the marine ecosystem.

Industry analysts have lauded the partnership, highlighting its potential to set a benchmark for future offshore projects in the region. “The Sangomar project is a significant milestone for Senegal, and DeepOcean’s involvement brings a wealth of experience and technical know-how,” said Rystad Energy’s Senior Analyst, Audun Martinsen. “This collaboration could pave the way for more investment in West Africa’s offshore sector.”

As DeepOcean prepares to embark on this ambitious project, the focus will be on efficient project execution and delivering value to Woodside and the Senegalese stakeholders. The successful completion of the Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 will not only mark a major achievement for DeepOcean but also signal the beginning of a new era in Senegal’s offshore oil industry.

With the subsea services contract now in place, both companies are set to push forward with their shared vision of transforming the Sangomar Field into a cornerstone of Senegal’s oil production capabilities. The coming years will be crucial as the project progresses towards its production goals, promising significant contributions to the region’s energy landscape.
