The 8th edition of AMVCA ends in glamour

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an award show presented by Multichoice recognizing outstanding performances in television, film, entertainment and with lots of talents and stars in attendance, The 8th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) was held last weekend at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos and it ended in glamour.

Funke Akindele, actress, won the Best Actress award in a Comedy movie or TV series while actor Ramsey Nouah won the award for Best Director. Social media comic, Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Oga Sabinus, became the first-ever recipient of the Best Online Social Content Creator, a newly created award category as part of the entertainment for the night, veteran afrobeat musician, Lagbaja, alongside Mavin superstar, Rema, thrilled the audience on the night.

The Ahanna Story and Amina came tops with four AMVCA honours each, with Best Director going to Ramsey Nouah for Rattlesnake and Best Overall Movie award going to Amina.

In the public voting categories, Stan Nze clinched the award for Best Actor in Drama while Osas Ighodaro won Best Actress in Drama. First time AMVCA nominees, Samuel Perry popularly known as ‘Broda Shaggi’ and Omowunmi Dada won Best Actor in a Comedy and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama respectively.

Producer, Rogers Ofime also had multiple wins in the categories: Best Television Series for The Mystic River,

Best Indigenous Language Movie (Hausa) for Voiceless and Best Africa Magic Original Comedy for The Johnsons.

The regional awards saw  Collision Course winning Best Movie West Africa, while The Girl in the Yellow Jumper and Hairareb won in the Best Movie East Africa and Best Movie Southern Africa respectively.

In the special recognition categories, the AMVCA Industry Merit award went to veteran actress and TV presenter, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett while Trailblazer award, an award given for an outstanding achievement by an up and coming act, went to Teni Aladese
