The Africa Leadership Awards has announced the nominees for the 2024 edition, showcasing notable leaders who have played a crucial role in the development of the continent. The nominees include former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, business tycoon Abdul Samad Rabiu Lawal, and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku.
The Africa Leadership Awards, known for recognizing outstanding leadership and impact across Africa, celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to advancing social, economic, and political progress in their respective countries and beyond.
John Dramani Mahama, former President of Ghana, has been nominated for his enduring influence in Ghanaian politics and his ongoing advocacy for democratic governance and economic development in West Africa. Mahama’s tenure was marked by efforts to stabilize Ghana’s economy and improve infrastructure, education, and healthcare services. His post-presidency activities have continued to champion democracy and good governance across the continent.
Bola Tinubu, the current President of Nigeria, has been recognized for his leadership and efforts to steer Nigeria through a period of economic challenges and reforms. Since assuming office, Tinubu has focused on tackling corruption, improving security, and driving economic diversification. His administration’s initiatives aim to enhance Nigeria’s global standing and promote sustainable development.
Abdul Samad Rabiu Lawal, a prominent Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist, has been nominated for his significant contributions to economic growth and social welfare through the BUA Group and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa). Lawal’s business ventures in cement, sugar, and real estate have created jobs and spurred industrial growth, while his philanthropic efforts have supported education, healthcare, and infrastructure development across Nigeria and Africa.
Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been recognized for his impactful work in promoting development and stability in the Niger Delta region. Under his leadership, the NDDC has implemented numerous projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, and education, as well as addressing environmental challenges in the oil-rich region. Ogbuku’s efforts have been pivotal in fostering peace and development in an area historically plagued by unrest and underdevelopment.
The Africa Leadership Awards ceremony, set to take place in December, will bring together dignitaries, business leaders, and policymakers from across the continent.
