Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been recognised as the Best Construction and Infrastructure Company of the Decade. The announcement was made at the West Africa Innovation Awards, an event aimed at promoting excellence, creativity, and innovation among leading brands in the West African region.
At the award ceremony, which brought together professionals and top industry players, Julius Berger emerged the overall winner ahead of two other major companies in the sector. The Chairman of the Award Organising Committee, Mr. Cammil Chineme, praised the company’s consistency, professional excellence, and strong values that have guided its work for decades.
Chineme said, “We salute your professional prowess; we salute your courage and uncommon professionalism. Julius Berger has continued to move from one conquest to another, and this award – the Diamond Award for Customer Service Excellence – is well deserved.”
He added that the West Africa Innovation Awards has grown into a respected platform that identifies real leaders in various industries across the region and gives them proper recognition.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company, the Director of Administration at Julius Berger, Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita, thanked the organisers for the honour. He used the opportunity to reflect on the company’s long and impactful history in Nigeria.
“Julius Berger has been in Nigeria for more than 50 years,” Kaita said. “We built the first bridge in Lagos in 1965 – the Eko Bridge – and it still stands firm today, despite the high volume of traffic it has handled over the years.”
Kaita went further to explain the company’s contribution to the development of new construction methods in Nigeria. He mentioned that Julius Berger introduced cold recycling technology in road construction, which he described as a breakthrough. According to him, the technique helps save up to 90 per cent of the usual construction resources and has now been adopted for academic study at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
While addressing public misconceptions about the company’s structure, Kaita clarified that Julius Berger International is actually a subsidiary of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, and not the other way around. “Contrary to what had been sold to the Nigerian public in the past, Julius Berger International is a branch of Julius Berger Nigeria,” he stated.
He dedicated the award to all the staff of Julius Berger, saying their hard work and dedication have helped the company turn challenges into achievements, not just for the business but also for communities and Nigeria as a whole.
Julius Berger has remained a key player in Nigeria’s construction sector, involved in several major projects including roads, bridges, airports, and buildings. The company has also received praise for its quality of service and attention to safety and sustainability in its operations.
The award comes at a time when the Federal Government has committed N777 billion to complete the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, a major project in which Julius Berger is playing a leading role. The company has also begun reconstruction of a major road in Rivers State.
With this new recognition, Julius Berger has once again stamped its position as one of the most reliable construction companies not only in Nigeria but across West Africa.
