Legend Internet, Huawei Launch Nigeria’s First Fibre-to-the-Room Broadband

by Radarr Africa

Legend Internet Plc has launched Nigeria’s first Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) broadband service, marking a significant leap in the country’s digital infrastructure. The groundbreaking service is being delivered in partnership with global technology giant Huawei Technologies, as part of a joint push to accelerate broadband access across Nigeria.

The launch comes shortly after the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on improving broadband penetration and closing Nigeria’s digital divide.

Speaking at the official launch event, Aisha Abdulaziz, the Chief Executive Officer of Legend Internet, said the new FTTR service would redefine the standard of broadband connectivity in the country.

“Our collaboration with Huawei reflects our commitment to global standards and local innovation. Unlike traditional broadband that stops at the router, FTTR by Legend brings pure fibre into every room, offering zero lag, full-house coverage, and the performance needed for smart homes, remote work, creators, and tech-forward enterprises,” Abdulaziz said.

FTTR is a next-generation broadband solution that delivers fibre-optic connectivity directly to each room in a home or office, providing faster internet speeds, better reliability, and seamless coverage throughout the entire space.

Huawei, a global leader in telecom technology and smart-home solutions, will provide the technical backbone for deploying the FTTR infrastructure nationwide. The company said it would leverage its decades of experience in fibre technology to ensure the rollout is efficient and meets international standards.

According to Abdulaziz, this launch aligns with Legend Internet’s broader mission to power Nigeria’s digital future through superior infrastructure and connectivity. She added that beyond elite homes, Legend plans to expand access over time with complementary broadband solutions for a wider range of users.

“While FTTR is currently targeting high-end residential customers, we are working on inclusive strategies to make this level of connectivity accessible to more Nigerians,” she said.

The partnership with Huawei also signals Nigeria’s growing appeal as a market for advanced digital services and infrastructure development. Industry experts say innovations like FTTR will be key to supporting emerging trends such as remote work, smart homes, and the digital economy.

Legend Internet Plc, which operates in both the broadband and fintech sectors, offers fibre-optic internet services and digital payment solutions. The company was recently listed on the Main Board of the Nigerian Exchange Limited by introduction on April 24, 2024. Its listing was seen as a vote of confidence in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

As part of its growth strategy, Legend aims to bridge the digital access gap, boost connectivity in underserved communities, and provide scalable internet solutions for individuals, households, and businesses.

Industry observers say the FTTR launch is a signal that Nigeria is moving towards more integrated and future-ready broadband infrastructure. With the backing of Huawei’s technology and Legend’s market reach, the partnership is expected to catalyse further investment and innovation in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
