SanlamAllianz Launches N200,000 Youth Essay and Storytelling Contest in Nigeria

SanlamAllianz Nigeria, in collaboration with AfricaComicade, has launched its first-ever national Essay and Storytelling Competition for Nigerian youths aged 10 to 16. The initiative aims to promote creativity, financial literacy, and purpose-driven conversations among young people across the country.

According to the organisers, the competition is designed not only to reward creativity but to also provide a platform for early engagement with financial education through gamified storytelling.

Head of Strategy, Marketing and Customer Relations at SanlamAllianz, Chris Ekwonwa, described the contest as more than just a writing competition. “This competition isn’t just about essays. It’s about empowerment. It’s about using writing and storytelling as a gamified entry point into bigger life conversations — about purpose, financial literacy, and imagination,” he stated.

He explained that the competition forms part of SanlamAllianz’s broader kids and youth engagement strategy. This strategy seeks to make financial education more accessible, engaging, and relevant to young Africans.

To keep the young participants excited and motivated throughout the process, the company said it will introduce gamified challenges, creative prompts, and digital badges. The approach is intended to encourage continuous participation and foster a fun learning environment.

Winners of the competition are expected to receive prizes worth about N200,000, along with recognition packs and national exposure for their work.

Entries are to be submitted via the designated competition portal on SanlamAllianz’s official website. The deadline for submission is August 17, 2025.

The competition aligns with a growing trend among corporate organisations in Nigeria and across the continent to invest in youth-focused programmes that combine education with creativity and digital literacy.

AfricaComicade, known for its youth-centric creative platforms and digital engagement tools, is partnering with SanlamAllianz to execute the initiative and ensure it reaches a wide audience of digitally savvy young people across Nigeria.

By targeting children and teenagers with such a programme, SanlamAllianz hopes to build early awareness of personal finance and responsible money management, while also fostering storytelling as a valuable life skill.

SanlamAllianz is the Nigerian arm of SanlamAllianz Group, one of the leading pan-African financial services providers focused on insurance and wealth building solutions.
