Accion Microfinance Bank has extended its reach in Nigeria by opening a new branch in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State. The new branch, which becomes the 74th in the bank’s national network, was officially launched earlier this June during a ceremony that attracted local community leaders, traders, customers, and staff.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Accion Microfinance Bank said the decision to establish the Ilorin branch is in line with its mission to bring banking services closer to individuals, petty traders, artisans, and small business owners who often face challenges accessing affordable financial services.

The Managing Director of Accion MfB, Mr. Taiwo Joda, who spoke at the tape-cutting event, said the bank is intentionally expanding its network to serve more people and support the financial growth of both individuals and businesses.

“We are committed to growing our retail footprint in a strategic way that will bring real value to our customers. Our approach is centred on customer needs, and we come with years of experience and a strong understanding of the microfinance sector,” Mr. Joda said.

He added that the bank’s goal is to help Nigerians meet their financial goals by offering easy-to-access services that are tailored to their specific needs. “Accion Microfinance Bank is not just about banking, we are about empowering lives and communities,” he said.

The new Ilorin branch is equipped with modern facilities, and customers can access a wide range of products including personal and business loans, savings accounts, and digital banking services. The bank also offers customer support services aimed at simplifying banking processes for its users.

In preparation for the branch launch, the bank held a two-day market storm activity where staff and volunteers engaged with traders and shop owners across major markets in Ilorin. The awareness drive was aimed at introducing the bank’s services and educating residents on how to access financial support for their businesses and personal needs.

Accion MfB has earned a reputation for serving the underbanked population in Nigeria. Since it began operations 19 years ago, the bank has focused on promoting financial inclusion by offering tailored services to people traditionally excluded from mainstream banking.

With this new branch in Kwara State, residents now have easier access to microloans, savings products, and digital tools that can help them manage and grow their businesses. The bank says it is determined to continue rolling out customer-focused solutions that empower people and help local economies thrive.

Mr. Joda also highlighted that Accion MfB’s strategy goes beyond brick-and-mortar expansion. According to him, the bank is also investing heavily in digital channels to allow customers to perform transactions securely and conveniently using their mobile phones and other devices.

“Whether it’s through our physical branches or our mobile platforms, we want to be wherever our customers are,” he said.

Accion Microfinance Bank is regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is known for its focus on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Its expansion into Ilorin aligns with broader national efforts to deepen financial services penetration in Nigeria, especially in underserved regions.

As the bank continues its growth, it promises to introduce more innovative financial products that respond to the real challenges faced by everyday Nigerians, especially women, young entrepreneurs, and small-scale business operators.

With increasing awareness of financial literacy and digital banking tools, Accion MfB believes more Nigerians will embrace microfinance as a way to escape poverty, grow wealth, and build sustainable businesses.
