The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) to take full advantage of President Bola Tinubu’s economic diversification policies to drive national development.
Akume made the call on Thursday in Abuja when he received the newly elected president of NACCIMA, Engineer Jani Ibrahim, and members of the association’s executive council during a courtesy visit to his office.
The SGF said the Tinubu administration has deliberately created a business-friendly environment and a level playing field for private sector participation, adding that organised bodies like NACCIMA must seize this opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s economic base.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Terrence Kuanum, Akume commended the association for its long-standing contribution to national development and urged it to align its programmes with the government’s diversification and industrialisation drive.
“I wish to warmly welcome you to my office and also congratulate you on your election as the 26th president of NACCIMA,” Akume said. “As you are all aware, we have over-depended on proceeds from crude oil for decades, leaving out huge revenues from other sectors of our economy. This government is deliberate about economic diversification as the surest path to building a sustainable system that will outlive us for generations yet unborn.”
Akume stressed that the administration’s policy direction aims to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on oil revenues by strengthening industries, agriculture, mining, and technology-driven sectors. He said the government will continue to collaborate with organised private sector groups to achieve inclusive growth and a resilient economy.
In his remarks, NACCIMA President, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, praised the SGF for his hospitality and assured him of the association’s full support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.
“We have come to pledge our total support to President Tinubu through your office and to strengthen the bond of public-private partnership,” Ibrahim said. “We are leveraging on the Renewed Hope policy to achieve our projection of a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2031. Considering the centrality of your office in governance, we are convinced that partnering with you would make our task more feasible.”
Ibrahim noted that NACCIMA remains committed to promoting entrepreneurship, industrial development, and sustainable business practices across Nigeria.
Highlighting the group’s environmental commitment, he disclosed that NACCIMA has launched an ambitious plan to plant one billion trees nationwide in support of the federal government’s green economy and environmental sustainability initiative.
Other members of the NACCIMA delegation included Ambassador Janet Disa, Prince Dapo Adelegan, Yahaya Adediran, Emmanuel Akeh, Solomon Adebayo Audu, Suleiman Adoga Ibrahim, Prof. Tunde Esaru, and Dr. Abina Praise.
Founded in 1960, NACCIMA serves as the umbrella body for all chambers of commerce, industry, mines, and agriculture in Nigeria. The association continues to play a key role in promoting trade facilitation, industrial policy advocacy, and private sector participation in national economic growth.
