The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, recently met with a group of professors and researchers to discuss the creation of a new thematic network aimed at calculating and reducing carbon emissions. According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting is part of ongoing efforts to leverage scientific research results to enhance the role of universities in Algeria’s economic development.
Baddari emphasized the importance of this initiative in fostering collaboration between the Ministry and other sectors. The goal is to create a platform that will facilitate integration, cooperation, and the sharing of knowledge regarding carbon emissions. This network will specifically focus on calculating the carbon emissions factor, an essential tool for measuring and reducing environmental impact.
The statement further revealed that the network’s objectives include developing scientific indicators for measuring carbon emissions, establishing a national system for tracking emissions, and contributing to the creation of a platform for more accurate carbon emission calculations. Another key focus will be promoting green entrepreneurship and preparing a detailed carbon footprint guide that adheres to international standards. These initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in advancing Algeria’s sustainability goals while encouraging innovation in environmental solutions.
In a related development, Minister Kamel Baddari also inspected the Ministry’s data center, highlighting the importance of continuous progress in infrastructure and cybersecurity. The visit aimed to assess the current digital services provided by the Ministry, ensuring they meet the needs of students, workers, and faculty. During the inspection, Baddari reviewed the various technological equipment and digital systems in place, urging engineers and network administrators to continue improving the services.
“Digitalization means activation and effectiveness, and constitutes the basis for optimal management of the administration to achieve the Ministry’s strategic objectives,” Baddari stated. His comments underscore the critical role of digital technology in modernizing higher education institutions and improving the efficiency of administrative processes.
