Chad’s ADETIC joins ITU to boost digital development

by Radarr Africa

The Agency for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies (ADETIC) of Chad has been admitted as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency responsible for information and communication technologies.

ADETIC was accepted into the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) and has received a formal welcome letter from the ITU Secretary-General, Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin, marking a significant milestone in Chad’s national digital development drive.

The membership grants ADETIC access to the ITU’s global network of 194 member states and more than 1,000 organisations spanning the private sector, academia and international institutions. The partnership is expected to provide the agency with technical expertise, best practices and resources to address key ICT challenges facing the country.

Through participation in ITU programmes and initiatives, ADETIC is expected to strengthen its capacity to design innovative and inclusive digital policies, while positioning Chad more prominently within the global digital economy. The move will also expand the agency’s international partnerships and accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

ADETIC has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring universal and high-quality access to communication and information services in line with ITU standards. The agency noted that the development aligns with Chad’s “Chad Connection 2030” strategy, championed by President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, which seeks to drive digital inclusion and support socio-economic growth nationwide.
