Curacel, Cornerstone Launch AI-Powered Remote Vehicle Inspection

by Radarr Africa

Curacel, a leading African artificial intelligence (AI) platform for insurers, has launched an AI-powered remote vehicle inspection workflow with Cornerstone Insurance Plc to speed up policy issuance and claims assessment in Nigeria’s motor insurance sector. The innovation aims to make the insurance process faster, more transparent, and less prone to fraud through automation and real-time analysis.

The end-to-end system, unveiled at the Insurance Meets Tech (IMT) 4.0 Conference on September 18, 2025, in Lagos, eliminates the need for physical inspections by using guided video capture, computer vision technology, and secure data integration. The new process allows customers to complete inspections remotely using a simple web link without downloading any application.

According to Curacel, the AI-driven inspection system is fully integrated with Cornerstone’s internal systems, including its Cici and claims platforms. The process also includes automated checks with the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database (NIID) to verify vehicle and policy authenticity. This innovation is expected to redefine how insurers handle motor policy issuance and claims management in the country.

The Deputy Chief Technology Officer at Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Mr. Oluwarotimi Adedeji, said the partnership with Curacel reflects the company’s commitment to using technology to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction. “We rebuilt inspections around the customer: a web link, guided capture, AI analysis, Cici integration, and NIID checks,” Adedeji said. “Every assessment an adjuster needs is now done by AI within minutes.”

The new workflow introduces what Curacel calls “zero-install access”, where customers receive a secure web link that guides them step-by-step to record a one-minute video of their vehicle. Using artificial intelligence and computer vision, Curacel’s system instantly analyzes the footage to detect visible damage, quality issues, and other vital details. The AI then generates a structured report that is automatically sent to Cornerstone’s claims and underwriting teams for further processing.

Curacel’s Chief Executive Officer, Henry Mascot, said the innovation marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward digital insurance. He explained that the goal is to make insurance faster, fairer, and more transparent for both policyholders and insurers. “This collaboration with Cornerstone demonstrates how AI can transform traditional insurance operations,” Mascot said. “By automating inspections and reducing manual work, insurers can now serve customers faster and with greater accuracy.”

The deployment of this AI-powered workflow has already shown significant impact on Cornerstone’s motor insurance operations. Pre-policy inspections that used to take several days are now completed within hours, and in many cases, within minutes after customers upload their videos. This improved efficiency reduces the need for field visits, manual paperwork, and back-and-forth communication between adjusters and customers.

Cornerstone’s management also noted that the new process enhances transparency and documentation quality. By providing consistent, AI-assisted assessments, the insurer can reduce disputes and ensure customers receive timely updates on their claims. The technology also makes it easier to detect fraudulent claims and ensure compliance with industry standards.

The partnership aligns with Nigeria’s growing push for digital transformation in the insurance sector. Regulators and industry stakeholders have been calling for innovation that enhances customer experience, reduces fraud, and promotes operational efficiency. The introduction of Curacel’s remote inspection tool is expected to set a new benchmark for digital adoption in the industry.

During the IMT 4.0 Conference, where the workflow was first showcased, both Curacel and Cornerstone demonstrated how the system works. The presentation included live demonstrations and feedback from early users, highlighting the simplicity and effectiveness of the new approach. Industry observers at the event commended the partnership as a forward-looking solution to long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s motor insurance segment.

Curacel explained that the remote inspection process follows a simple five-step flow. Customers receive a secure link, record their vehicle through guided video prompts, and the AI system analyzes the footage in real time. The results are then cross-checked with NIID data before being sent directly into Cornerstone’s systems for policy issuance or claim settlement.

The company said the workflow is already live and operational at Cornerstone Insurance Plc and will continue to scale across other motor insurance use cases in the coming months. The AI-powered solution is part of Curacel’s broader mission to help African insurers reduce costs, minimize fraud, and improve turnaround time for claims and underwriting decisions.

Curacel is currently working with several insurers across the continent, offering tools for real-time underwriting, fraud detection, claims automation, and computer-vision-based assessments. Its platform supports carriers in delivering faster, more transparent, and more customer-focused services.

With this partnership, both companies aim to show how digital innovation can help the Nigerian insurance industry overcome legacy inefficiencies and build stronger trust between insurers and policyholders.
