GlobeTrotter, in partnership with the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria and DataShare Service Limited, has launched a new digital platform aimed at connecting Out-of-Home advertising asset owners with potential clients across Nigeria and around the world. The platform was officially unveiled on Thursday and is designed to remove long-standing barriers that have slowed transactions in the outdoor advertising sector, especially the challenge of distance between billboard owners and advertisers.
The launch event brought together advertising practitioners, regulators, billboard operators, agency representatives and other outdoor media stakeholders from different parts of the country. GlobeTrotter handled the technology development of the platform, while DataShare Service Limited worked as the financial technology partner, offering payment and transaction support to ensure smooth operations.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Managing Director of GlobeTrotter OOH Limited, Ayodele Akingbade, said the platform is more than just a new digital product. He explained that it marks the beginning of a major transformation for the outdoor advertising sector by changing how companies connect, trade and deliver value. According to him, the industry has for many years faced challenges such as fragmented asset information, slow manual processing, limited visibility for buyers and poor optimisation opportunities for asset owners.
Ayodele Akingbade said these challenges have slowed the growth of Nigeria’s OOH ecosystem, especially at a time when global advertising is shifting quickly towards technology-driven solutions. He stated that this new platform is designed to bridge the gap between traditional billboard advertising and modern digital tools to help the sector scale up. He noted that the system allows users to carry out transactions faster, with clearer information and more transparency.
He explained that the digital platform works as an online marketplace where asset owners and advertisers can meet, compare options and make decisions in real time without depending on lengthy manual processes. He added that the platform will strengthen collaboration across the industry and offer improved access to clients both within and outside Nigeria. According to him, the system will give buyers the ability to browse different outdoor advertising locations, review price options, compare visibility levels and make faster decisions based on their marketing needs.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria, Dr Sola Akinaiku, expressed excitement about the official launch. He said the outdoor advertising sector has played a major role in shaping brand visibility for more than four decades in Nigeria. According to him, OOH practitioners have consistently used creativity to turn major city roads and highways into spaces that showcase brand messages and connect companies with millions of people daily.
Dr Sola Akinaiku stated that although the industry has built a strong legacy, it has also faced challenges caused by physical limitations, fragmented access to data and slow manual processes that often delay business transactions. He said these limitations made it necessary for the sector to adopt a digital solution that bridges the gap between its rich history and the demands of modern advertising.
He explained that the introduction of GlobeTrotter shows that the industry is ready to embrace innovation and modern technology that can improve efficiency, transparency and access for stakeholders. He described the platform as a comprehensive marketplace where outdoor advertising assets can be searched, compared and acquired from any device and from any part of the world. According to him, this digital shift will attract more advertisers, support asset owners and help to drive long-term growth in the Nigerian outdoor advertising industry.
Dr Sola Akinaiku added that GlobeTrotter is more than just a technology upgrade but a major shift showing that the industry is prepared for a new chapter. He said the platform is expected to power the next phase of OOH advertising in Nigeria by increasing visibility, reducing operational stress and expanding the market for outdoor media businesses.
Industry stakeholders at the launch event described the new platform as a welcome development that will help modernise the sector and open more opportunities for brand owners, billboard operators and advertising agencies. They noted that the improved access, faster transactions and clearer asset information will strengthen competition and encourage better service delivery across the industry.
