Egypt’s ed-tech startup Kouncel raises US$1.2 million in a pre-seed funding round

Kouncel, an Egyptian legal ed-tech business, has acquired US$1.2 million in pre-seed funding. Zaldi Capital, African Development Bank Group (AfDB), the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), and the Egyptian entrepreneurship development initiative Tanmia wa Tatweer Project (TwT) all participated in the fundraising round.

Ibrahim M. Saleh established Kouncel in 2020 to provide an online video education platform for attorneys, with courses on areas like arbitration, legal drafting, and intellectual property based on several jurisdictions.

The funds will be utilized to expand the startup’s user base in Egypt and throughout the MENA region. Founder of Kouncel, Ibrahim M. Saleh said “Education forms a key part of Egyptian Economic Vision 2030, and law plays an important role in creating a healthy environment for businesses and pushes FDIs forward. and we aim to provide a highly sophisticated education experience to everyone in the legal field which will positively impact the ecosystem”
