Enterprise Life Assurance Nigeria has announced the appointment of Nelson Akerele as its new Managing Director, succeeding Mrs. Funmilayo Omo, who stepped down after five years of leading the firm.
The transition was confirmed by the company’s board and officially unveiled at a formal event held at the Enterprise Life Nigeria head office in Lagos on Thursday.
Funmilayo Omo joined the company in 2020 and is credited with steering it through a phase of substantial growth, leveraging digital innovation and expanding access to life insurance for underserved Nigerians. During her tenure, the firm deepened its market presence and pushed forward initiatives aimed at promoting financial inclusion through insurance uptake.
Nelson Akerele brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry to his new role. His background spans strategic growth, business development, and operational management, with a solid track record of delivering results in both banking and insurance.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Group, Daniel Larbi-Tieku, expressed confidence in Akerele’s ability to lead the company through its next phase of development. “Nelson Akerele is a proven leader with a strong understanding of the Nigerian insurance industry. His appointment marks a new chapter for Enterprise Life Nigeria as the firm deepens its commitment to innovation and customer service,” he said.
In his remarks, Akerele acknowledged the significance of the appointment and the task ahead. “I am honoured to lead Enterprise Life Nigeria at this important time. I look forward to working with the team to make insurance more accessible and impactful for Nigerians,” he said.
Omo, who previously emphasised that insurance adoption is key to financial inclusion, has been praised for introducing innovative insurance models and improving customer engagement. Her legacy includes laying a strong foundation for technological transformation within the firm.
