The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has approved the recruitment of 34 resident doctors for a seven-year training program aimed at improving healthcare services in the FCT.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, confirmed this in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday. He explained that the 34 doctors are part of a larger plan to train 60 medical professionals across eight specialties in FCT Administration hospitals.

According to Olayinka, five doctors will specialize in psychiatry, four in internal medicine, and one in general surgery. The program will also train one doctor in anesthesiology, eight in family medicine, six in ophthalmology, and nine in obstetrics and gynecology.

He further stated that this is the first time such recruitment is being carried out outside the Health Management Board. The initiative is expected to create more opportunities for medical practitioners and strengthen healthcare delivery in the territory.
