Fire Destroys Shops in Onitsha Main Market

A fire outbreak has ravaged parts of the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State. The inferno reportedly broke out in one of the market buildings around 6:20 am on Friday, rapidly spreading to a neighboring structure.

As of the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remains unknown.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as local residents, bystanders, and firefighters scrambled to salvage goods and belongings from the burning area.

Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit for the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a brief statement on Friday.

He reassured the public, urging them to stay calm while firefighters work to put out the flames.
“Anambra State Fire Service is actively intervening at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha.

The distress call was received at 6:20 a.m today, and our firefighters responded immediately,” Chiketa stated, emphasizing that the situation is under control.
