IEA Criticises Ghana’s 2025 Budget Revenue Projections as ‘Unambitious’

by Radarr Africa

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has taken a swipe at Ghana’s proposed 2025 budget projections, describing the 16.1% revenue-to-GDP target as weak and far from ambitious.

In a statement released by the think tank, the IEA argued that the figure falls short of the country’s revenue potential and may not be enough to drive meaningful economic transformation or fiscal consolidation.

The organisation is urging the government to adopt bold revenue mobilization strategies, plug leakages, and expand the tax base to push revenue figures closer to 20% of GDP, in line with global best practices.
