Stakeholders in Nigeria’s insurance and pension industries have declared strong support for the 10th annual conference of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE), scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Lagos.
The conference, with the theme “Strengthening Insurance and Pension Frameworks For Better Economy”, has continued to attract backing from a wide range of stakeholders including insurance companies, insurance institutions, broking firms, pension regulatory authorities, and pension fund operators.
According to the organisers, the event is expected to serve as a major platform for discussing how insurance and pension frameworks can be improved to support Nigeria’s economic growth.
The Chairperson of NAIPE, Mrs. Nkechi Naeche-Esezobor, expressed delight at the overwhelming support received from stakeholders. She said the growing interest in the conference highlights its credibility and the positive impact it has made since inception. “Every year the conference keeps getting better, attracting more support and sponsorship not only from the insurance and pension sectors but also from other sectors of the nation’s economy. This increased support and sponsorship underscores the general acceptance of the conference because of its consistency and the impact it has created,” Naeche-Esezobor stated.
The 2025 edition of the conference will be chaired by the former Commissioner for Insurance and former Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Sunday Thomas. He is expected to provide insights from his long years of experience in regulating the insurance industry.
Delivering the keynote address will be the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Arthur Stevens Asset Management Limited, Mr. Olatunde Amolegbe, who will focus on how insurance and pension systems can be leveraged to strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
The organisers also disclosed that the conference will feature Special Guests of Honour, including the current Commissioner for Insurance and CEO of NAICOM, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, and the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolara Oloworaran. Both regulatory leaders are expected to shed light on ongoing reforms in their respective sectors and how policies are being shaped to secure the future of Nigerians who rely on insurance and pension products.
The panel session, which promises to be a highlight of the event, will feature industry leaders and experts. Confirmed panellists include the Director-General of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Mrs. Bola Odukale; the CEO of Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), Mr. Oguche Agudah; Head of Operations at Parthian Pensions Limited, Mr. Adetunbi Ashaye; Executive Director of Business Development at emPLE Life Assurance, Mr. Makanjuola Tubi; and the Director of Legal, Enforcement and Market Development at NAICOM, Dr. Talmis Usman. They will collectively examine the challenges and opportunities within the insurance and pension sectors, as well as strategies to improve efficiency, deepen penetration, and enhance trust among Nigerians.
Over the years, the NAIPE conference has become a respected platform where professionals in the insurance and pension industries, policymakers, and the media converge to address topical issues. The consistency of the conference has helped it build credibility and relevance within the financial sector, making it an event industry players look forward to annually.
Observers believe this year’s edition will be particularly significant, coming at a time when Nigeria is implementing reforms in the insurance and pension sectors. The Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025 (NIIRA), signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July, is already reshaping the industry with stricter capital requirements, enforcement of compulsory insurance, and digitisation of processes. At the same time, PenCom is intensifying efforts to expand pension coverage across both the formal and informal sectors.
With top regulators, operators, and industry experts set to gather in Lagos, stakeholders are optimistic that the 2025 NAIPE conference will provide valuable recommendations that can support Nigeria’s journey towards building a stronger, more resilient economy.
