Interswitch Pushes Tech Innovation in Nigerian Hospitality Sector

Interswitch, a top African tech company, has restated its commitment to transforming the hospitality sector across the continent using technology. This was made clear during its participation as an exhibitor at the 2025 Hotel Managers Conference Africa (HMC), which held recently in Lagos.

The two-day event brought together stakeholders from across the hospitality industry to explore fresh ways of achieving sustainable growth. The focus was on technology, global best practices, and strong partnerships. Interswitch used the platform to showcase its range of digital payment tools, all tailored to meet the changing needs of businesses in the hotel and hospitality sector.

According to a statement from the company on Sunday, Interswitch highlighted its Smart POS terminal at the event. The high-speed, multifunctional device supports both local and international cards, making it ideal for hotel operators serving both Nigerian and foreign guests. It accepts cards from Verve, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, China UnionPay, Discover, Diners Club, and Japan Credit Bureau.

A major highlight is the POS device’s ability to handle USD settlements for foreign transactions. This makes it easier for hotels to serve international customers who prefer to pay in dollars. The terminal also has a “card-not-present” feature, which allows for remote payments. This is useful for scenarios like pre-arrival deposits or paying for incidentals before checkout.

In addition to the Smart POS, Interswitch also promoted its Payment Gateway. This solution enables hotels to accept online bookings securely and process payments using international cards. It can be integrated easily into existing systems and also allows for USD settlements, giving Nigerian hotels a chance to serve a broader global audience without the usual stress that comes with cross-border payments.

The company also showed off its bulk disbursement platform, which helps hotels manage payments to vendors, staff, and service providers. This tool reduces manual input and ensures timely and smooth transactions.

The Interswitch booth drew strong interest at the conference, especially from hotel managers and business owners. Many expressed eagerness to adopt the company’s technology to boost efficiency and improve customer experience.

Speaking on the company’s participation at the event, Osasere Atohengbe, Vice President of Sales and Account Management at Interswitch, said the event helped them connect directly with businesses that are ready to modernise.

“Our participation at HMC 2025 reinforces our mission to be a reliable technology partner for hospitality businesses. We’re not just providing tools; we’re enabling real transformation. It was rewarding to engage directly with operators who are ready to take the next leap,” Atohengbe said.

Interswitch is already a trusted name among many hotels in Nigeria, including big names like Eko Hotels, Marriott Hotel, and The George Hotel. Thousands of businesses across different sectors rely on its digital payment systems.

With the hospitality industry now focusing more on digital transformation and international standards, Interswitch is positioning itself as a key enabler for the future. Its involvement in the 2025 Hotel Managers Conference Africa shows its readiness to continue supporting Nigerian and African businesses through innovative, customer-focused solutions.

The company says it will keep building on partnerships that foster inclusive economic growth, while providing reliable tech tools for merchants in the hospitality sector and beyond.
