State House Says Uhuru Has Not Been Denied Funds

State House Kenya has denied the claim that President William Ruto has been withholding funding from former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s office due to political disagreements.

During a press briefing at Harambee House, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed dismissed the sensational allegation made by Nation that Uhuru has not been receiving financial support for his office as the former president.

The Nation reported that over Ksh1 billion in funds, approved by Parliament in the past two fiscal years, were allegedly not being disbursed to Uhuru, leading him to finance his office expenses, including paying staff and state-provided bodyguards for his local and international travels, from his personal funds. Hussein refuted these claims, stating that there is a designated office for former Kenyan presidents in Nyari, Westlands constituency in Nairobi, previously used by the late Mwai Kibaki.

While Uhuru has not yet occupied this office, he is welcome to do so. “There is an office complex in Nyari previously used by the late President Mwai Kibaki for 9 years. It remains unoccupied and available for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s use whenever he chooses. Regarding budgetary concerns, there are established procedures for accessing funds and resources for the Office of the Fourth President, ensuring provision for official engagements,” said the State House Spokesperson.

Earlier reports from Nation suggested that Uhuru had declined the Nyari office and preferred to operate from his residence near State House, Nairobi. Furthermore, the publication claimed that as the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta was not receiving certain allowances, such as fuel, resulting in him covering these expenses personally.
