Tier 5 Technologies, a major player in enterprise IT and cloud services in West Africa, has entered into a strategic partnership with MongoDB, a global leader in database technologies. The collaboration, announced on Tuesday in Lagos during a “Legacy Modernisation Day” event co-hosted by both firms, is set to deepen MongoDB’s presence in Nigeria and help organisations across the region modernise legacy systems and leverage artificial intelligence (AI).
The move signals a strong push to tap into Africa’s growing digital economy, which is projected to reach $100 billion. With Nigeria seen as the continent’s largest technology and economic hub, both companies are positioning themselves to play leading roles in shaping the future of enterprise software and cloud adoption.
Speaking at the event, Anders Fabry, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at MongoDB, said the partnership was a strategic milestone for the company’s regional ambitions.
“Partnering with Tier 5 Technologies is a pivotal step in deepening our presence in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and a key economic engine for the continent,” Fabry stated. “Tier 5 Technologies brings a proven track record, a strong local network, and a clear commitment to MongoDB as their preferred data platform.”
He revealed that Tier 5 had already shown serious commitment by hiring MongoDB-focused sales specialists, facilitating executive-level connections, and securing the first enterprise deals for MongoDB in Nigeria in record time. “We are excited about the impact we can make together in this strategic market,” Fabry added.
MongoDB, a New York-based company, is known globally for powering millions of developers and serving over 50,000 customers, including 70 percent of Fortune 100 companies. Its core offerings include MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and MongoDB Atlas, a fully managed cloud database platform available on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
MongoDB Atlas, in particular, is designed to help developers create scalable, low-latency applications without relying on legacy infrastructure—a major challenge in many African countries. This makes it especially suited to the needs of startups, banks, and other enterprises looking to modernise their IT systems quickly and affordably.
Director of Sales at Tier 5 Technologies, Afolabi Bolaji, described the partnership as transformative for the African tech landscape.
“This is not just a reseller deal,” Bolaji said. “We have made significant investments in MongoDB because we believe it will underpin the next generation of African innovation. Many of our customers—from nimble fintechs to established banks—already rely on it. Now, they will have access to enterprise-grade features, local support, and global expertise.”
The collaboration also reflects a changing global narrative in the tech industry. Africa is no longer seen solely as a consumer market. Increasingly, global tech companies are recognising the continent as a source of innovation, talent, and enterprise demand—particularly in fast-growing sectors such as financial technology, logistics, education, and artificial intelligence.
With cloud adoption gaining momentum and the limitations of traditional IT infrastructure still prevalent across many organisations, this partnership aims to help African companies leapfrog older systems and build future-ready digital solutions.
By combining MongoDB’s cutting-edge technology and global reach with Tier 5 Technologies’ deep local knowledge and market access, both firms hope to deliver scalable, modern data solutions that will accelerate digital transformation across Nigeria and West Africa.
The partnership is also expected to bring more direct enterprise support for MongoDB customers in the region, along with tailored solutions and resources that reflect local business realities. For Tier 5, the deal signals a continued shift from traditional IT service delivery to forward-looking digital infrastructure that supports innovation at scale.
