The UBA Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has once again demonstrated its commitment to social impact by distributing essential materials and cash donations worth millions of naira and dollars to vulnerable communities, school students, orphanages, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Nigeria and 19 other African countries. The initiative, part of the Foundation’s food bank and giving-back drive, reached over 100,000 beneficiaries between November 2025 and January 2026, providing relief to families and individuals facing financial challenges during the festive period and the beginning of the new year.
In Nigeria, the Foundation’s outreach extended across all six geopolitical zones, targeting orphanages, children’s homes, and IDP camps. Some of the beneficiaries included the Daughter of Mercy Mother of Mary Orphanage Home in Abia State, the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and the Helpless in Ebonyi State, and the Destitute Home Okobaba in Lagos. Others included Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation in Oyo State, Itsoghena Orphanage Home in Edo State, Enoima Children Home in Akwa Ibom, Yekope Orphanage in Kogi, IDP camps in Niger and Borno States, UMCN Orphanage Home in Taraba, Kebbi Children’s Home, and the Orphanage Home in Dutse, Jigawa State. Each facility received non-perishable food items, educational materials, and other essential supplies aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and children.
The Foundation also extended its humanitarian efforts beyond Nigeria to several African countries where UBA has a presence. In Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, UBA Foundation provided similar support, reaching hundreds of thousands of people. The assistance included food packages, hygiene materials, school supplies, and cash gifts to vulnerable households, emphasizing the bank’s Pan-African approach to social responsibility and its role in addressing community needs across borders.
Speaking during a visit to the Destitute Home Okobaba in Lagos, the Managing Director and CEO of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, underscored the importance of sustained engagement in improving lives. She personally distributed food packages, school materials, and other essentials to students and adults alike, highlighting that the Foundation’s mission goes beyond one-off donations. “Our goal is to create lasting impact in the communities we serve. We believe that supporting education, nutrition, and welfare consistently is key to fostering hope, resilience, and self-reliance among the vulnerable,” she said.
Bola Atta explained that the Foundation’s initiatives are designed to break barriers of location, economic status, and access, ensuring that people in both urban and rural areas, as well as conflict-affected regions, benefit equally. She noted that the Foundation’s programs are guided by data and community engagement, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need, including internally displaced persons in Niger and Borno States, and children in remote orphanages. The Foundation also partners with local organizations and community leaders to identify gaps and maximize the impact of its interventions.
Analysts say UBA Foundation’s ongoing CSR activities highlight the growing role of corporate institutions in driving social change across Africa. By combining financial resources with operational expertise and a Pan-African network, the Foundation can reach large numbers of people efficiently and sustainably. Over the years, UBA Foundation has developed programs that focus on education, youth empowerment, health, women and children’s welfare, and community development. These programs aim not only to provide immediate relief but also to support long-term development and self-sufficiency.
The outreach underscores UBA Foundation’s commitment to inclusive development, providing tangible support to people who often live on the margins of society. For beneficiaries, the donations translate to improved nutrition, access to learning materials, and relief from financial pressures, particularly during the year-end festive season when expenses typically rise. The Foundation’s work also reinforces UBA Plc’s brand as a socially responsible bank committed to improving lives across the continent, reflecting its core values of service, integrity, and community impact.
