by Radarr Africa

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has kicked off its 2025 edition of Customer Service Week, reaffirming its dedication to putting customers at the centre of its operations. The event, which is celebrated globally, highlights the importance of service excellence and customer engagement in building lasting relationships between organisations and their clients.

In a statement released on Sunday, UBA announced that this year’s celebration will be held under the global theme ‘Mission Possible’, reflecting the bank’s commitment to turning challenges into opportunities and consistently delivering exceptional services across Africa and beyond.

The bank explained that the theme aligns with its long-standing Customer First philosophy, which prioritises customer satisfaction and innovation as the driving forces behind its operations. UBA said the 2025 celebration represents not just a week of appreciation but also a renewed promise to go above and beyond for its customers.

Speaking at the launch, UBA’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Oliver Alawuba, said that the bank remains deeply committed to providing top-notch service across all its touchpoints in the 20 African countries where it operates.

“As Africa’s global bank, we understand the unique challenges our customers face across different markets,” Alawuba stated. “That is why we are constantly investing in technology, people, and processes that make banking easier, faster, and more rewarding. This week is not just about celebrating our customers, but about renewing our pledge to make the impossible possible for them. At UBA, we are not only committed to meeting expectations but exceeding them.”

He emphasised that the bank’s customer-focused approach has been central to its success and that UBA would continue to drive digital transformation and innovation to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

Also speaking, UBA’s Group Head, Customer Experience, Mrs. Michelle Nwoga, said this year’s Customer Service Week marks a renewed commitment to customer satisfaction and service delivery excellence. “At UBA, our mission is clear: to make the seemingly impossible possible for our customers,” she said.

Nwoga explained that the bank’s efforts go beyond traditional banking. “Whether it is enabling cross-border transactions in real time, ensuring seamless digital access to banking, or supporting small businesses to grow against the odds, we are committed to delivering service that transforms lives. This week is a celebration of that mission and of the customers who inspire us to raise the bar every day,” she added.

As part of the 2025 Customer Service Week activities, UBA announced several initiatives designed to give back to customers and empower communities. These include business series for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), aimed at helping entrepreneurs access better financial tools and knowledge to expand their businesses.

In addition, the bank is encouraging parents and guardians to register their children and wards for the ongoing UBA National Essay Competition for Senior Secondary Schools, a programme that promotes academic excellence and literacy among young Nigerians. The bank also plans to host financial literacy workshops to educate customers and small business owners on navigating the current economic environment.

UBA described Customer Service Week as a special period to celebrate customers and employees alike, acknowledging their loyalty, hard work, and contribution to the bank’s continued success. The bank said its consistent participation in the annual celebration underscores its belief that customer satisfaction is not just a service metric but a culture.

Analysts say the 2025 Customer Service Week comes at a crucial time when customer experience is becoming a major differentiator in Nigeria’s financial sector. As competition intensifies among commercial banks and fintech firms, UBA’s emphasis on service excellence and innovation positions it as one of the leading customer-focused banks on the continent.

United Bank for Africa, one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, operates in 20 African countries and has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and the United Arab Emirates. The bank continues to expand its digital banking footprint while maintaining its commitment to improving customer experience across all channels.
