The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has confirmed that the 2025 edition of the prestigious Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) will take place on October 3, 2025. The event, which honours excellence in the accountancy profession, will be held as a stand-alone ceremony for the first time, unlike previous editions which were combined with the ICPAU Annual Seminar.
The ASA is one of Uganda’s most respected professional award ceremonies, celebrating both individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to the growth and advancement of accountancy in the country and internationally. It also recognises those who have upheld high ethical values, delivered exceptional professional service, and played key roles in national development.
Nominations for the awards will come from members and students of ICPAU as well as the general public. The final winners will be selected by the Institute’s Members Services Committee, which will assess nominees based on merit, impact, and contribution to the profession.
The 2025 awards will feature eight main categories. These are the ICPAU Gold Service Award, CPA of the Year, Young Accountant of the Year, Woman Accountant of the Year, Finance Team of the Year, Accounting Firm of the Year, Institutional Partner of the Year, and the Unique Humanitarian Award. According to ICPAU, the categories are designed to ensure that professionals, firms, and institutions are all recognised for their unique contributions to the sector.
Looking back at the 2024 edition, CPA Keto Kayemba won the prestigious Gold Service Award, while CPA Mary Theresa Kiggundu was named Woman Accountant of the Year. The Young Accountant of the Year award went to CPA Joseph Osako. In a special recognition, Pastor Gary Skinner received the Unique Humanitarian Award for his outstanding service to humanity in Uganda.
Institutional winners in 2024 included the Uganda National Oil Company, which was recognised as the Institutional Partner of the Year, and CPA Uganda–Ankole Region, which took home the Regional Members Network of the Year award. In addition, John Bosco Ntangaare was granted ICPAU Honorary Membership for his remarkable service to the profession.
The upcoming 2025 event is expected to attract high-profile participants from Uganda’s business, finance, and government sectors, as well as regional and international guests. The ICPAU leadership believes the awards will continue to promote professionalism, encourage innovation, and inspire young accountants to uphold the highest standards in their work.
During the event, ICPAU officials emphasized that the awards are not just a recognition platform but also a tool for motivating accountants and finance professionals to maintain integrity, transparency, and commitment to service. They also noted that the stand-alone nature of the 2025 ceremony will give it more visibility and prestige in the professional calendar.
As the accountancy profession in Uganda continues to evolve, with technology and new regulations shaping the sector, the ASA provides an opportunity to highlight those leading the way in adapting to change and ensuring that the profession remains relevant in driving economic growth.
The October 3 ceremony will also serve as a networking opportunity for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and aspiring accountants to share experiences and explore ways to strengthen the role of accountancy in both the public and private sectors.
By celebrating excellence in accountancy, ICPAU hopes to reinforce the message that professional integrity and service excellence are not just ideals but necessary pillars for building trust in financial reporting, corporate governance, and national development.
