VG Pensions Appoints Lifestyle Influencer Hannah Usman as New Brand Ambassador

by Radarr Africa

VG Pensions has announced lifestyle influencer Hannah Usman as its latest Brand Ambassador in a move designed to expand its reach and deepen engagement with Nigerians, particularly in the informal sector. The unveiling was made on Wednesday through a statement by the company, which explained that the appointment would complement its long-standing partnership with Nollywood actor and producer, Femi Adebayo, who has been an ambassador for over five years.

The development comes as VG Pensions intensifies its promotion of the Personal Pension Plan (PPP), a retirement savings product targeted at artisans, traders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and other self-employed individuals. The plan, formerly known as the Micro Pension Plan, was recently rebranded to make it more appealing and relatable to Nigerians. The rebranding was announced at the Pension Industry Leadership Retreat organised by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in May 2025, as part of efforts to drive inclusivity in pension participation.

Speaking on Usman’s appointment, the Head of Corporate Development and Strategy at VG Pensions, Mr. Tochukwu Esejindu, said the partnership was carefully designed to strengthen the firm’s visibility nationwide, with a strong focus on the northern region. According to him, Hannah Usman’s influence and commitment to financial empowerment would significantly advance the objectives of the Personal Pension Plan.

“Her appointment will strengthen the brand’s visibility across the country and particularly in the North, and contribute significantly to the actualisation of the overall objective of the Personal Pension Plan, which is to ensure financial security of individuals in the informal sector when they retire. Her values, influence, and dedication to financial empowerment align perfectly with VG Pensions’ mission of making pensions simple, accessible, and relevant to everyone. With her as a voice in promoting and creating awareness for the Personal Pension Plan, we are confident of reaching more individuals with the message of securing their future today,” he said.

Also commenting, the Head of the Personal Pension Plan at VG Pensions, Mrs. Peninnah Omisade, expressed confidence in the choice of Usman as an ambassador. She explained that the influencer’s strong following, particularly in Northern Nigeria, would help drive awareness of the benefits of pension planning among people who are often excluded from formal retirement schemes.

“With her strong profile and reach, particularly in Northern Nigeria, she will help drive awareness of the newly redesigned PPP, its benefits, and its relevance to individuals in the informal sector. The partnership aims to make pension planning less abstract, more personal, and more accessible for the informal sector workers,” Omisade stated.

Reacting to the announcement, Hannah Usman expressed excitement at the opportunity to contribute to financial inclusion and retirement awareness. “I am truly honoured to be part of VG Pensions as a Brand Ambassador. Retirement planning is not just for tomorrow; it starts today. I look forward to using my platform to encourage more people, especially young professionals and entrepreneurs, to embrace the Personal Pension Plan and secure a brighter future,” she said.

Industry watchers see this move as part of a broader trend of financial institutions using influencers to connect with younger demographics and underrepresented groups. By tapping into the credibility and following of lifestyle personalities, pension firms like VG Pensions aim to break down barriers and demystify retirement savings for millions of Nigerians.

The Personal Pension Plan is regarded as a critical tool for providing financial security to informal workers who often lack structured retirement benefits. With Nigeria’s informal sector employing more than half of the country’s workforce, experts believe strategic awareness campaigns like this could boost pension penetration and reduce the risk of poverty among retirees.

With Hannah Usman joining Femi Adebayo in the ambassadorial line-up, VG Pensions is expected to expand its influence and solidify its brand as a leader in retirement planning solutions tailored for all Nigerians, regardless of their sector of work.
