Citizen Urges FG, NNPCL to Expand Tantita Security’s Pipeline Surveillance Across Niger Delta

A concerned citizen, Mr. Prezugha Ezon, has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to extend the pipeline surveillance contract of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to cover the entire Niger Delta region. He argued that the company’s impact goes far beyond preventing crude oil theft, with contributions that span environmental protection, corporate social responsibility, and community development.

In a statement, Ezon said the Federal Government should consider awarding more pipeline security jobs to Tantita because of the organisation’s strong adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, as well as its track record in improving livelihoods in its operational areas. “The Federal Government of Nigeria and NNPCL should contract more pipeline surveillance security jobs to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd because of their philanthropic, environmental, social and governance contributions,” Ezon stated.

According to him, the company’s operations have helped to significantly reduce pollution, improve air and water quality, and prevent soil degradation in the Niger Delta. He noted that by tackling illegal bunkering, Tantita has helped stabilise vegetation and contribute to climate protection.

Ezon further highlighted the firm’s community development projects, including the construction, furnishing, and commissioning of the ultra-modern Ugborikoko Divisional Police Headquarters. Tantita also provided operational vehicles to the Nigerian Police Force, supporting law enforcement in the region.

He pointed out that the company has maintained a cordial relationship with local stakeholders, fostering trust in the communities where it operates. “Just a few months ago, its Managing Director, Engr. Kestin Pondi, empowered 40 individuals across the country with N5 million each to boost existing businesses or start new ones,” Ezon said.

Other projects by the company include the recent construction and commissioning of the Isoko Youth House (Fred Obe Secretariat) in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. Ezon added that Tantita’s operations have generated over 8,000 jobs in the Niger Delta, leading to a sharp reduction in crimes such as kidnapping, sea piracy, and other illegal activities in the waterways.

He claimed that oil production within Tantita’s current areas of operation has increased “geometrically” due to reduced theft and vandalism. Ezon believes that if the company’s operational scope is expanded to cover the entire Niger Delta, Nigeria could potentially produce more than three million barrels of crude oil per day.

“If their operational areas are expanded across the whole Niger Delta, Nigeria will produce more than three million barrels per day,” he asserted.

Ezon therefore urged President Bola Tinubu and the NNPCL leadership to broaden Tantita’s surveillance responsibilities, noting that such an expansion would not only boost the country’s oil output but also sustain peace in the oil-rich region. He argued that the company’s combination of security effectiveness, community engagement, and environmental stewardship positions it as a vital partner in Nigeria’s quest for increased crude production and stability in the Niger Delta.
