The Taraba State government has denied reports that Governor Agbu Kefas spent ₦5.22 billion on foreign trips within six months, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The report, which was published in a section of the media, claimed the figure was obtained from the state government’s official website and the National Bureau of Statistics. It alleged that the governor incurred massive expenditures on international travel.
But in a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Jalingo, said the report was fabricated and not supported by any official records.
“This claim is entirely false. It is not based on any official record and constitutes a gross misrepresentation of facts, deliberately presented to mislead the public,” Jalingo stated.
She further explained that the alleged spending figure does not exist in the state budget, official portal, or the National Bureau of Statistics dataset. She urged members of the public to verify the information from reliable channels before believing such claims.
“We have checked and urged the public to do the same. Until then, the ₦5.22 billion claim remains nothing but fiction,” she said.
The commissioner stressed that Governor Kefas’s administration has been focused on reforms in education, healthcare, and economic development, which are beginning to show results.
“Transformation is a gradual process, requiring deliberate planning, tough choices, and sustained effort. The results are beginning to manifest,” she added.
The government urged the public to disregard the report and rely on official information from the state to avoid being misled. It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and truth in governance.
