BIC has marked the 50th anniversary of its popular BIC 1 razor, celebrating five decades of innovation, quality and consumer trust in Nigeria and across global markets. In a statement, the company described the half-century milestone as a significant achievement in the consumer goods industry, noting that the single-piece disposable razor introduced in 1975 has maintained international leadership for 50 years.
The company noted that the BIC 1 razor pioneered low-cost, disposable shaving at scale, following its development at BIC Violex in Greece. Since then, the razor has shaped grooming routines worldwide. Today, BIC produces over five billion blades annually in factories located in Greece, France, Mexico, Brazil and Kenya, supplying more than 160 countries, including Nigeria.
According to the company, each blade undergoes more than 60 quality checks and is engineered to be about 2,000 times thinner than a strand of hair, a feature that ensures the smoothness and safety generations of users have come to trust.
General Manager of BIC Nigeria, Anthony Amahwe, said the brand’s longevity is tied to its ability to meet everyday grooming needs without compromising quality.
He noted that the BIC 1 razor is more than just a long-lasting product. It represents how smart engineering and accessible design have shaped daily grooming habits for millions of people, including Nigerians. Amahwe added that the company would continue to push the boundaries of shaving technology and deliver products that improve the everyday experiences of consumers.
BIC also highlighted its ongoing innovation efforts, which ensure that its shaving products remain relevant across different generations. The company mentioned the BIC Flex 2, a modern razor designed for comfort and precision. It features a dual open-blade system for easy rinsing, a pivoting head that adapts to facial contours and a moisturising strip infused with aloe vera and vitamin C.
For women, BIC offers the BIC Miss Soleil, which provides a gentle but effective shave. The razor includes triple-blade technology, an ergonomic handle and a hydrating strip enriched with aloe vera and vitamin E to give users a smooth experience.
The company further emphasised its sustainability-focused production model, noting that it continues to invest in environmentally conscious manufacturing processes while maintaining product reliability.
As BIC celebrates 50 years of the BIC 1 razor, the brand says it remains committed to innovation, quality and delivering accessible grooming solutions to consumers in Nigeria and around the world.
