Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the launch of a dedicated nationwide hotline for Nigerians to report any MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling station selling Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, above the approved pump price of N739 per litre. The refinery said the move is part of its efforts to promote transparency, fair pricing, and consumer protection in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The refinery made this known in a statement issued on Monday, where it also warned marketers against creating artificial scarcity, stressing that it currently has the capacity to supply up to 50 million litres of petrol daily to meet national demand. According to the company, the hotline initiative is aimed at ensuring that Nigerians fully benefit from recent reductions in petrol prices made possible through local refining.
In the statement, Dangote Petroleum Refinery disclosed that the hotline number, 0800123 5264, is now active across the country. The refinery said the line enables consumers to promptly report any MRS filling station that sells petrol above the approved price. It explained that the reports will help ensure compliance with agreed pricing across the more than 2,000 MRS stations nationwide.
The refinery stated that the initiative followed its recent commencement of nationwide sales of petrol at N739 per litre, which it described as a strategic intervention designed to stabilise fuel prices and ease the financial pressure on Nigerians, especially during the festive season when fuel consumption typically rises. According to the company, the decision to sell at a uniform price is part of a broader effort to bring predictability and fairness into the fuel supply chain.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery emphasised that its core mission is to supply affordable, high-quality fuel to Nigerians while also protecting national economic interests. It said local refining at scale provides an opportunity to address long-standing challenges in the petroleum sector, including price volatility, supply disruptions, and excessive dependence on imported fuel.
In encouraging Nigerians to make use of the hotline, the refinery urged consumers to avoid purchasing petrol at inflated prices when locally refined fuel is available at N739 per litre. It called on Nigerians to actively report any MRS station that violates the agreed price, noting that public participation is critical to ensuring that the benefits of local refining are felt across the country.
“We encourage Nigerians to avoid purchasing PMS at inflated prices when locally refined fuel is available at N739 per litre. Report any MRS station selling above this price by calling our hotline. Together, we can ensure that the benefits of this price reduction reach every consumer,” the refinery stated.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to steady and reliable supply of petrol, saying it is backed by a guaranteed daily output of up to 50 million litres. According to the refinery, this volume is sufficient to meet Nigeria’s daily consumption needs, leaving no justification for artificial scarcity or supply manipulation by marketers or distributors.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery warned that any attempt to deliberately restrict supply, hoard fuel, or create artificial scarcity in response to the price reduction would be unacceptable. The company described such actions as unpatriotic, especially at a time when efforts are being made to reduce fuel costs and stabilise the economy.
The refinery called on regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take decisive action against any operator found engaging in sharp practices. It said strong regulatory oversight is essential to maintaining order in the downstream petroleum market and ensuring that consumers are protected from exploitation.
“Any attempt to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply to frustrate recent price reductions is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We urge regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take firm action against such practices, especially during this critical festive period,” the statement added.
The refinery also highlighted the broader economic benefits of local fuel production, noting that refining petroleum products within Nigeria reduces the country’s dependence on imports. It explained that local refining helps conserve foreign exchange, supports the stability of the naira, and strengthens national energy security. According to the company, these outcomes are critical for Nigeria’s long-term economic recovery and sustainability.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery said the current initiative represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a more self-sufficient and resilient energy sector. It added that large-scale local refining has the potential to transform the downstream petroleum market by improving supply reliability, reducing costs, and creating jobs across the value chain.
Consumers were advised to remain vigilant and resist buying petrol at inflated prices when cheaper, high-quality alternatives are available. The refinery stressed that consumer awareness and cooperation are key to ensuring that pricing agreements are respected and that the intended relief reaches households and businesses.
As Nigeria continues to adjust to changes in fuel pricing and supply dynamics, initiatives such as the hotline are expected to play a role in improving accountability within the petroleum distribution network. Dangote Petroleum Refinery said it will continue to engage with marketers, regulators, and consumers to promote fairness, transparency, and efficiency in the sector.
