APC Youth Group Urges Tinubu, Akpabio to Back Senator Sani Musa for APC National Chairmanship

A political advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC Youth Solidarity Network for Progressive Change, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to rally support for Senator Mohammed Sani Musa to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

The group, in a statement signed by its National President, Gideon Oche, warned that the APC cannot afford to leave its leadership structure to chance as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. The group described Senator Musa as a “bridge between generations” and a “strategic institutional thinker” capable of repositioning the APC for long-term dominance in Nigeria’s political space.

According to the statement, “The continued dominance of our party in Nigerian politics hinges not just on policy but on the strength, vision, and foresight of its internal leadership. We are making this patriotic call with the deepest sense of urgency.”

Oche noted that Senator Musa, who represents Niger East Senatorial District, possesses the right blend of youthful energy and political experience, coupled with deep knowledge of institutional governance and party affairs. He added that Musa’s leadership is what the APC needs to rebuild confidence and unity among its members nationwide.

The group stressed the need for President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio to guide the party towards a credible leadership succession process. “The APC must not wait for a crisis before putting its house in order. The next National Chairman of the APC will either lead the party into a new era of strategic coherence or risk presiding over its decline,” the group said.

It further argued that the party should resist any temptation to choose its next leader based on political patronage or elite compromise. Instead, it urged that merit, competence, and national relevance should guide the process of selecting a new national chairman.

Oche also praised Senator Musa’s record in the National Assembly, especially his leadership of committees on finance, electoral reforms, and technology. He said these experiences make Musa well-equipped to provide pragmatic leadership that aligns with the APC’s vision of national development and internal cohesion.

“We need a party leader who is respected in both the North and South, who is accessible to young people and the political establishment alike. Senator Musa is that person,” Oche said.

He concluded by urging Tinubu and Akpabio to “kindly but firmly” persuade Senator Sani Musa to declare his interest in leading the APC, saying this is not just a political call but a national duty. “Posterity beckons. Senator Musa must now be called upon to serve—not out of ambition, but out of duty,” the statement added.
