George Madi top Gambian business tycoon dies in Beirut blast

George S. Madi, a successful Lebanese-Gambian businessman and the chairman and managing director of Shyben A Madi & Sons Limited was among dozens of people killed following the huge explosions in Beirut, capital of Lebanon. He passed away on Tuesday 4th August 2020 in Beirut, Lebanon and he was aged 77.

A prominent figure whose company Shyben Madi had been in the frontline and played an important role in the Gambia’s economy by providing regular basic commodities and soul representative of Japanese cars Nissan, Suzuki and Yamaha.

A Japanese honourary Consul General of Japan in the Gambia was awarded by the Japanese government in 2019 in recognition of his efforts in improving the cordial relations between The Gambia and Japan. He will be greatly missed by Gambians and in the business world.
