JUSUN Calls Off Strike, Orders Judiciary Workers to Resume

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has officially suspended its nationwide strike, directing all members to return to work today, Wednesday. This decision follows successful negotiations with key government and judicial stakeholders.

In a communiqué signed by the National Vice President and ten other JUSUN executive members, the union announced the suspension after extensive talks with representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The strike, which had paralyzed judicial activities across the country, was suspended to allow dialogue with the Federal Government. The government has been given a one-month window to release judiciary funds. Commitments were made toward the implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, payment of arrears, a 25%/35% salary increase, a five-month wage award, and other outstanding benefits.

The communiqué emphasized that suspending the strike was a show of goodwill, pending the fulfilment of financial commitments to the judiciary sector. Signatories included JUSUN’s national officials and chairpersons from major judicial institutions such as the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, and various courts within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This development comes after judicial activities were paralyzed for weeks across Nigeria, affecting the administration of justice. The strike suspension is expected to restore full operations in courts nationwide, while giving the Federal Government a final opportunity to meet the union’s demands.
