The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Nigeria has announced that it will hold its 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, 31st July 2025, in Lagos. This year’s event will place strong focus on Nigeria’s maritime trade and the organisation’s strategic direction for the years ahead.
In a statement released by the Secretary-General of ICC Nigeria, Mrs. Olubunmi Osuntuyi, she described the AGM as a major event for reflection, accountability, and planning. She noted that the meeting will help align the chamber’s programmes and goals with the broader mission of the global ICC to promote international trade, encourage responsible business conduct, and support the rule of law.
Mrs. Osuntuyi said, “The AGM presents an important opportunity for reflection, accountability, and forward planning as we continue to align our activities with ICC’s global mandate.”
The Post-AGM lecture, which is one of the key parts of the programme, will be delivered by Mr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, MON, who is currently the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. His presentation is titled ‘Shipping and Maritime Trade: The Backbone of International Trade’. It is expected to give attendees a deeper understanding of the critical role maritime logistics play in the movement of goods and services across the globe.
The meeting will also be used to welcome new members into ICC Nigeria. Some of the organisations set to be formally inducted include OA&C Legal, Summit Field, Woodhall Capital Ltd, Power Afric Energy Services, Anaje Olumide Oke Akinkugbe, Harris-Isa, Omoloju & Co., Optimus Bank Ltd, Yakubu Maikasuwa, Toki Mabogunje & Co., Premium Trust Bank, ASL Business Solutions Ltd, Providus Bank, and Fidelis Oditah & Co.
The 2025 AGM will feature several key activities, including the presentation of the 2024 Annual Report and the Audited Financial Statements of the Chamber. There will also be a review of Nigeria’s involvement in ICC global commissions and taskforces, as well as discussions on strategic goals for the 2025–2026 business period.
Another important item on the agenda is the election of new leaders to occupy critical roles within the Chamber. These positions are vital for the smooth running of ICC Nigeria and to ensure continued engagement with international partners and local stakeholders.
ICC Nigeria is the Nigerian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organisation. It plays a vital role in driving the interests of the Nigerian private sector in the areas of trade, investment, arbitration, sustainable development, and digital transformation.
By promoting global standards in business practices and ensuring that Nigerian businesses are well represented in international trade conversations, ICC Nigeria contributes to national economic growth and international business cooperation.
Industry experts say the focus on maritime trade at this year’s AGM is timely, especially as Nigeria continues to reposition its ports and shipping industry to attract more trade and investment. With ongoing reforms at the Nigerian Ports Authority and new efforts to reduce congestion and improve logistics, the maritime sector is seen as a key driver of economic growth.
The event is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including ICC Nigeria members, representatives from the private sector, government officials, and development partners. The aim is to use the meeting to discuss and agree on how to move the business environment in Nigeria forward, especially in line with global standards and expectations.
With the induction of new member organisations and the adoption of new strategic goals, ICC Nigeria is expected to play a stronger role in helping Nigerian businesses grow, compete globally, and attract investment into key sectors of the economy.
