Morocco records MAD 148 Billion electronic transaction in H1 2020

The total electronic payment transaction recorded in Morocco in the first half of 2020 is worth MAD 148.4 billion ( $15.9 billion)

The Interbank Electronic Banking Centre(CMI) reported that a total of 171.5 million transactions occurred during this period

Some of the e-payment transactions include cash withdrawal transaction on automated banking machines, payment transactions with merchant and e-merchants platforms, ATM payments with debit cards, as well as cash advance transactions via foreign debits cards.

There was a declined of 13.4% and 9.6% transaction in terms of the number of funds recorded compared to the first half of 2019

Moroccan debit cards recorded 165.5 million transactions in payments and withdrawals which translate to the total transaction worth of MAD 140.8 billion ($15 billion) which represents a decline of 12.2% in volume and a decrease of 6.8% in value.

Withdrawals from ATMs using Moroccan debit cards was totalled at 130.1 million transactions of MAD and 126.8 billion ($13.5 billion) during the first half of 2019. The number of the transaction represents a decline of 15.0% in the volume of transaction and 7.2% in value compared to the year 2019

Moroccan debit cards payment transactions with merchants and e-merchants affiliated to the CMI was recorded at 34.2 million transactions of MAD ($1.5 billion), with a slight increase of 0.9% in volume and a decline of 3% in value.

Payment via Moroccan debit cards includes various transaction performed at clothing retailers, gas stations, appliances store, as well as the health sector

The CMI report shows that ATM transactions with Moroccan debits cards for bills, tax, and recharge cards amounts to 1.1 million transactions valued at MAD 216.9 million ($23 million), this figure represents a 23% decline in volume and 14.3% in value respectively compared to the first half of the year 2019

For Moroccan debit cards with international validity was at 5 million transactions which was carried out abroad, this transaction includes withdrawals and payments valued at 2.2 billion ($235 million), which represents an increase of 16.7% in volume and a decrease of 15.7% in value

Transactions of foreign cards in Morocco recorded a 6 million transaction of MAD 7.6 billion ($812 million), representing a decrease of 37.2% in volume and 42.1% in value.
