President Tinubu Thanks Governors for Loyalty

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Nigerian governors for their loyalty and commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda. The President made this known during his official one-day visit to Nasarawa State on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The visit saw a warm reception for the President by the Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, top traditional rulers, and other political leaders from across the country. Governors from several states, including Kaduna, Borno, Imo, Ogun, Kwara, and Benue, also graced the occasion.

President Tinubu, visibly emotional, thanked the governors for standing by him since his assumption of office in May 2023. According to him, their support has played a vital role in helping the administration push forward the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to revive the economy, tackle insecurity, and improve the lives of Nigerians.

“Seeing the governors here is truly an emotional day for me,” the President said while speaking to a gathering of dignitaries in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital. “Thank you for the way you showed up with grace and glory. Thank you for keeping your loyalty intact.”

President Tinubu assured the government and people of Nasarawa that his administration will continue to support developmental efforts in the state, especially in the solid minerals sector and agriculture. He acknowledged the strategic role Nasarawa plays in Nigeria’s mineral wealth and food production.

While visiting the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (rtd), the President commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his prudent management of the state’s resources, which has won the confidence of both the federal government and international investors.

He said, “I am happy to be back here in Nasarawa and to confirm what the Emir told me during the campaigns in 2023 – that I would be back as President. Thank you, Your Highness. You are a far-sighted leader and a man of integrity.”

The Emir of Lafia, who is also the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, praised President Tinubu’s leadership, noting that the President’s achievements in Lagos when he served as governor were now being reflected across the country. He also recalled how he had spoken highly of Tinubu during previous visits of former President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.

“Your Excellency, our president, our friend, our everything – you are welcome back. We were lucky during the campaigns to host you twice. I told President Buhari that Tinubu was among the best, because we were in Lagos and saw the transformation with our eyes,” the Emir said.

He added, “You are now doing the same for Nigeria, and before you leave office, I believe Nigeria will be great again. You have our full support.”

President Tinubu used the opportunity to commission several projects in the state, including a modern flyover and road interchange in central Lafia. The infrastructure projects were completed without borrowing, a point the President stressed during his speech.

He also inaugurated the new state secretariat building, newly constructed roads, a fleet of tractors for mechanised farming, and operational vehicles to boost the activities of security agencies in the state.

Governor Abdullahi Sule personally received the President at the Lafia Airport and led him to the sites of the newly completed projects. The state government had earlier announced that the projects were aimed at positioning Nasarawa for rapid development and attracting more investors.

President Tinubu, while addressing the crowd, promised to do more for the youths and future generations. He said the Renewed Hope Agenda was not just a campaign slogan but a national plan to transform Nigeria’s economy, improve infrastructure, and create opportunities.

“All I have decided is to ensure a change for the future and the best. The Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on creating a better Nigeria, especially for young people and future generations,” he said.

The President’s visit comes at a time when the federal government is ramping up economic reforms, tackling inflation, improving security, and working closely with states to implement key national projects.

The ceremony ended with traditional blessings from the Emir and cultural displays from local groups, as residents of Nasarawa trooped out in large numbers to welcome the President.
