by Radarr Africa

Consumer goods giant, PZ Cussons Nigeria, has relaunched its flagship hygiene brand, Carex, as part of a renewed campaign to promote safe hygiene practices in Nigerian homes. The relaunch, themed “Win the War Against Germs”, was unveiled during a colourful ceremony held in Lagos on Wednesday, drawing attention to the company’s expanded product line and its renewed commitment to public health.

At the heart of the relaunch was the introduction of a new Masterbrand identity for Carex, along with an expanded portfolio of antibacterial products, including handwashes, bar soaps, and antiseptic liquids. The company said the new branding and products are part of a broader strategy to make hygiene accessible and effective for Nigerian families.

Speaking during the event, Managing Director of PZ Cussons Nigeria, Mr. Oghale Elueni, said the relaunch was not just about product aesthetics, but a renewed mission to improve hygiene across all aspects of life in Nigeria. “Carex has always stood for protection and care. This is more than just a brand refresh. It’s about a bigger mission—to win the war against germs wherever you are, at home, at work, in school, or on the go,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the company’s Head of Marketing, Martha Kayode, said Carex remains committed to safeguarding families through scientifically developed products that are both powerful and skin-friendly. “This relaunch is a fresh start. A chance to renew our promise to Nigerian families. Every single product is formulated to kill one million plus germs in seconds while being kind to your skin,” she said.

British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Jonny Baxter, who was present at the unveiling, praised the initiative and highlighted the importance of partnerships like this in enhancing UK-Nigeria trade and social impact. “As we celebrate this milestone, let us also celebrate the spirit of partnership that makes it possible. Let us recognise the resilience of Nigerian consumers, the vision of companies like PZ Cussons, and the growing alignment between UK enterprise and Nigerian ambition,” he noted.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, echoed similar sentiments, stressing that good hygiene was fundamental to public health. “Good hygiene saves lives. Carex is reaffirming that truth today,” he said.

The event also had the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, in attendance. She praised Carex for its role in disease prevention, especially at a time when access to basic hygiene is still a challenge in many parts of the country. “Promoting everyday hygiene is essential to reducing the disease burden in our communities. Carex’s dedication to this cause is commendable,” she said.

Also present was the General Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Mr. Thomas Shettima, who described the relaunch as a significant moment in the association’s partnership with PZ Cussons. “This relaunch marks a significant milestone in NANNM’s collaboration with PZ Cussons, a partnership that has been guided by a clear sense of purpose—promoting health and hygiene through products that meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy,” he noted.

Category Manager for Carex, Ms. Adedunmola Ezichi, added that the new identity represents a renewed commitment to the well-being of Nigerian families. “This relaunch is more than a new look. It’s a renewed promise: to protect and serve Nigerian families,” she said.

The unveiling event was filled with cultural performances, live product demonstrations, and musical entertainment. Guests also had the opportunity to interact with the revamped product range and experience the brand’s focus on hygiene education.

PZ Cussons Nigeria used the occasion to reinforce its strategy to remain a major player in Nigeria’s hygiene market. The company said it will continue to provide products that offer “a complete hygiene solution for every household,” with an emphasis on eliminating germs effectively while being gentle on all skin types.

The Carex relaunch aligns with the increasing awareness of personal hygiene post-COVID-19, and PZ Cussons believes this campaign will resonate strongly with Nigerian consumers, especially families, schools, and healthcare professionals.
