The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed reacts to CNN Reports

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has reacted to the investigative reports conducted by American television, CNN, concerning the October 20 Lekki shootings as superficial.

The Minister stated that CNN should be sanctioned for misinformation and irresponsible reporting.

According to CNN investigative report the Nigerian Army initially denied being at the scene of the shooting, the documentary showed soldiers were at the Lekki toll gate and did shoot live bullets at the protesters.

The report also showed the bullet casings from the scene matches those used by the Nigerian army when shooting live rounds, Verified video footage using timestamps and data from the video files shows soldiers who appear to be shooting in the direction of protesters.

Accounts from eyewitnesses establish that after the army withdrew, the second round of shooting happened later in the evening.”  

The minister urges persons who have alleged massacres as well as missing friends and family members to report at the judicial panel to lay official complaints.

He further added that CNN report excludes the looting and violence by citizens, 269 private facilities destroyed and looted including 243 government facilities vandalised.
