President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a keynote address at the 2025 edition of African Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town, South Africa. The event, which will take place in September, is themed “Invest in African Energies”, and will bring together major stakeholders from across Africa and the global energy industry.
According to the African Energy Chamber (AEC), Tinubu’s participation at the event is expected to highlight Nigeria’s bold steps in overhauling its oil and gas sector, and share insights on the country’s energy policies, investment strategy, and broader industrial goals.
The President’s attendance comes at a time when Nigeria is undergoing major reforms in its energy space, aimed at making the sector more attractive to investors. Since taking office, Tinubu has prioritised initiatives that are helping to reshape Nigeria’s energy environment, from regulatory reforms to fiscal incentives for local and international investors.
The African Energy Chamber noted that the Nigerian President’s leadership is now being recognised across the continent as a model for how resource-rich nations can implement reforms that lead to real investment growth, job creation, and long-term benefits for citizens.
NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, described Tinubu’s administration as an example of how clear and determined leadership can bring about results. “Nigeria under President Tinubu is showing the world how decisive policy reforms can directly translate into investor confidence and tangible project commitments,” Ayuk said in a statement.
He further explained that what Nigeria is currently doing can serve as a useful case study for other oil and gas-producing countries in Africa. According to him, “It demonstrates that by cutting red tape, streamlining processes and providing fiscal certainty, countries can attract capital on a large scale while creating real value for their people.”
President Tinubu is expected to share Nigeria’s success story at AEW 2025, where his address will offer regional and international delegates a clear picture of the country’s energy plans. His presentation is likely to touch on Nigeria’s strategy for long-term energy security, industrial development, and job creation, especially in the face of global calls for cleaner and more inclusive energy policies.
In May 2025, President Tinubu signed a major executive order focused on oil and gas sector reforms. The order is designed to improve the speed and cost-efficiency of upstream projects in Nigeria. Among the key provisions were tax breaks, streamlined contracting procedures, and the removal of delays caused by regulatory and local content bottlenecks. The reforms aim to reduce the cost of upstream oil and gas projects in Nigeria by as much as 40%.
The federal government believes these changes will make Nigeria more competitive with other oil-producing countries, especially in attracting capital and technical partners. With global investors increasingly looking for stable and reform-minded markets, Nigeria is hoping to position itself as one of the top destinations for long-term energy investments in Africa.
President Tinubu’s appearance at AEW 2025 is also expected to further promote the country’s efforts at building a more sustainable and inclusive energy sector. This includes improving access to energy for underserved communities, increasing local content participation, and ensuring that Nigeria’s energy transition remains both realistic and economically beneficial.
As preparations for the conference intensify, stakeholders from the public and private sectors in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry are expected to attend the event alongside the President, using the platform to network with investors, present new opportunities, and reinforce Nigeria’s position on the African and global energy map.
The African Energy Week has grown to become one of the continent’s most important energy events, bringing together policymakers, investors, regulators, and industry experts to shape the future of Africa’s energy landscape.
