In a move set to boost trade facilitation and product standardisation across East Africa, German inspection and certification giant TÜV Rheinland has renewed its Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) contract with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) for another three years.
The renewed agreement, announced earlier this week, will see TÜV Rheinland expand its operations to new geographical zones, deepening its role in supporting Tanzania’s import regulation efforts. Under the PVoC scheme, the company will continue conducting inspections, testing, and certification of products destined for Tanzania, ensuring compliance with national standards before shipment.
Officials say the expansion will help streamline market access for manufacturers and exporters while improving the safety and quality of goods entering the Tanzanian market.
The Country Manager of TÜV Rheinland Tanzania, Mr. Jaffar Mohamed, emphasized that the extended contract reaffirms the company’s commitment to supporting regional trade and global competitiveness. “Our mission remains ensuring that only high-quality and safe products enter the market. With this renewed partnership, we are moving closer to achieving harmonized trade compliance,” he said.
The Tanzania Bureau of Standards also expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance over the years and cited its consistency in facilitating smoother trade processes as a key factor in the contract extension.
Analysts believe that the move reflects Tanzania’s growing efforts to strengthen standardisation and consumer protection in its import sector — a move likely to boost investor confidence and reduce the influx of substandard goods.
