Veritas Kapital Hosts Lagos Car Safety Clinic with K-Cool, Car Love Show

Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc has launched a new road safety initiative in Lagos aimed at reducing vehicle-related accidents and promoting car maintenance awareness among Nigerians. The event, held at the company’s Lagos office on Saturday, was organised in collaboration with The Car Love Show and K-Cool Automobile, and forms part of the insurance firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The car maintenance and safety clinic brought together several vehicle owners, including a significant number of female e-hailing drivers, for an interactive session focused on educating the public about proper car care, accident prevention, and road safety.

Speaking during the programme, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Veritas Kapital Assurance, Dr. Adaobi Nwakuche, explained that the initiative was designed to help Nigerians become more informed about vehicle maintenance in order to prevent avoidable accidents and protect lives on the road.

“This initiative is about prevention, education, and safety,” Dr. Nwakuche said. “We’re starting here in Lagos, but the plan is to roll this out across all our branches nationwide. When people understand how to maintain their vehicles, they reduce the chances of accidents, protect lives, and make our roads safer for everyone. That’s the kind of impact we’re committed to as a responsible insurer.”

The clinic is Veritas Kapital’s first major public-facing road safety campaign, and signals its intention to support community-based education as part of its broader corporate values.

Also speaking at the event, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Veritas Kapital, Mr. Arinze Adigwe, noted that the initiative was not about marketing insurance products but about making a difference through community impact.

“This is not about selling insurance; it’s about being present where it matters,” Adigwe said. “Educating the everyday car owner on basic maintenance is one way to reduce claims, yes, but more importantly, it’s how we help people stay safe and avoid harm. Through this platform, we’re enabling conversations that ultimately contribute to a safer society.”

Attendees at the Lagos event were treated to free vehicle diagnostics and took part in interactive question-and-answer sessions. They also had the opportunity to engage one-on-one with automotive experts from K-Cool Automobile Workshop and Academy.

General Manager at K-Cool, Engineer Oluwakayode Osorun, gave detailed advice on proper vehicle maintenance and the dangers of using incorrect components or ignoring warning signs. He stressed that small issues, if left unattended, can lead to major breakdowns or road accidents.

“We took time to guide participants on proper maintenance routines—from the right type of engine oil to use, to the appropriate brake fluid, transmission oil, and even tyre choices,” Engineer Osorun said. “When car owners use the wrong products or ignore small warning signs, it increases the risk of breakdowns and accidents. Simple knowledge can prevent major loss.”

Many of the participants, especially women working as e-hailing drivers, expressed gratitude for the practical knowledge gained at the session. Some noted that they had never been taught the basics of vehicle care and often relied solely on mechanics, sometimes to their disadvantage.

With this new initiative, Veritas Kapital is hoping to push for a culture of safety-first thinking among drivers and road users. The company says it will continue to partner with relevant organisations to take the safety clinic to other parts of the country in the coming months.

The clinic aligns with growing concerns about poor vehicle maintenance among Nigerian drivers and the rising number of preventable accidents. Industry experts believe that with more educational efforts like this, drivers will be empowered to take more responsibility for their vehicle conditions, ultimately contributing to safer roads across Nigeria.
