FCB Donates K20m to Beit CURE Hospital Golf Fundraiser

First Capital Bank (FCB) plc has donated K20 million to support Beit CURE Children’s Hospital’s fundraising campaign ahead of a Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for September 6, 2025, at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre. The tournament, which will bring together corporate partners and individual golfers, is aimed at raising funds for life-changing surgeries for children living with treatable disabilities.

The symbolic cheque was presented in Blantyre on Tuesday by FCB plc’s Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking, Nagesh Shrivastava, to the hospital’s Executive Director, Rhoda Kriek. Shrivastava explained that the bank’s contribution reflects its commitment to supporting initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives.

“CURE is engaged in a very noble cause — treating not just the children but also bringing hope to their families and ultimately shaping the future of Malawi. This year alone, CURE has managed to treat 2,500 children, which is a significant contribution to our country,” Shrivastava said. He added that the hospital plans to increase that number to 2,900 children in 2026, a target that deserves strong community and corporate support.

According to Shrivastava, supporting Beit CURE Children’s Hospital aligns with one of the key pillars of First Capital Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which focuses on health and education. He stressed that for the bank, it is not just about financial transactions but about playing an active role in shaping a healthier society. “For us at First Capital Bank, it gives us a true sense of purpose to be associated with such a noble cause,” he said.

Beit CURE Children’s Hospital, based in Blantyre, specializes in orthopaedic surgeries for children with conditions such as clubfoot, bowed legs, and other correctable disabilities. Many families in Malawi cannot afford such medical procedures, making the hospital’s services crucial in transforming lives and giving children a chance at a brighter future.

Reacting to the donation, Beit CURE’s Executive Director, Rhoda Kriek, applauded First Capital Bank for being a reliable partner over the years. She said the bank has been consistent in supporting the hospital’s mission to deliver free surgeries to children in need.

“First Capital Bank has been a loyal partner of ours for many years, consistently donating towards the cause of supporting surgeries for children with treatable disabilities. Last year, when we communicated our plans to ramp up the number of surgeries and reach more children in Malawi, they boldly stepped in to sponsor a golf tournament. This initiative is not only raising awareness but also mobilising even more funds to support life-changing surgeries for children with disabilities,” Kriek said.

She emphasized that the September tournament is expected to generate significant support, as it will attract both corporate sponsors and individual golfers who want to “play for a cause.” She expressed hope that the collaboration with FCB and other partners will help the hospital meet its target of reaching more children across the country.

Beit CURE Children’s Hospital has been operating in Malawi for more than two decades, providing specialized surgical care to children free of charge. Its work has not only transformed thousands of lives but also contributed to reducing stigma faced by children with physical disabilities. The partnership with companies like First Capital Bank ensures the hospital can continue providing these services despite growing demand.

In Malawi, access to specialized paediatric surgery remains limited, with many rural families lacking both the financial means and access to medical facilities. By sponsoring charity events like the upcoming golf tournament, FCB and its partners are helping bridge the gap between need and access to critical healthcare.

The Charity Golf Tournament at Country Club Limbe is expected to attract leading business executives, philanthropists, and golf enthusiasts who will contribute towards the hospital’s mission while enjoying a sporting challenge. Organisers say beyond the game, the event will raise awareness about the plight of children living with disabilities and the importance of community-driven solutions to healthcare challenges.

As the countdown to September 6 begins, Beit CURE Children’s Hospital and its partners are calling on more corporate players and individuals to join the cause. For First Capital Bank, the K20 million donation is more than just financial support — it is a reaffirmation of the bank’s role in building stronger communities through sustainable social investments.
