Aviation union shuts down Air Arik operation over salary arrears of workers

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), have shut down the operations of Arik Air over the airline’s alleged failure to pay the overdue salary of workers.

This information was made known by an insider of the airline who pleaded to remain anonymous.

Plans are ongoing to change the name of the embattled airline from Arik Air to Nigeria Eagle, the rebranding process is creating anxiety among present and past staff who are being owed seven months’ salary arrears.

Management of Arik expresses fears that the name change could be to attract new investors but the staff and various government agencies say that no investor would want to carry liabilities incurred while it still bears the old name.

Workers are shocked and do not know where this decision is headed to since there is a huge pending debt which is yet to be remitted to government agencies, contractors and past and present workers.

Complete details will be given shortly,
