Chinese automotive giant LDV enters South African market

LDV is making its debut in the South African market, establishing its headquarters in Sandton, Gauteng. The brand is in the process of appointing a national dealer network and has already finished constructing its first dealership in Sandton. Additionally, a national parts distribution warehouse agreement is close to being finalized.

The LDV brand, with its origins in the United Kingdom in 1896, transformed over the years, eventually becoming LDV after being Leyland DAF Vehicles in 1987. LDV is renowned for its bakkies, SUVs, and vans, with its T60 range being particularly popular, selling over 21,000 units in Australia last year. Under the Saic Motor umbrella, LDV is now part of the largest vehicle manufacturers in China and among the top ten globally.

Saic Motor, a Fortune 100 company, partners with General Motors and Volkswagen, producing various brands including Roewe, MG, LDV, and Maxus. In South Africa, the Maxus brand has gained recognition as an electric commercial vehicle supplier for Woolworth’s home delivery services.

LDV South Africa will soon offer commercial vehicles in their internal combustion form, building on the existing Maxus reputation. LDV South Africa is set to launch its first range of bakkies in May 2024, accompanied by a comprehensive model line-up. The company will provide a five-year/200,000km factory warranty and a five-year/100,000km service plan as standard across its range of SUVs, vans, and bakkies.

Having completed local testing, LDV South Africa aims to unveil detailed information on its complete vehicle range soon.
