As a result of the closure of all international airports in the country to traffic except for emergencies and essential services and the voluntary reduction or suspension of domestic operations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced disinfecting some of its major gateways.

The lull in air travel has availed the airport managers the opportunity to disinfect its airports unhindered by the usual traffic and also help reduce the stead of the dreaded COVID-19 Virus that has affected all sectors of the economy including air transport and its auxiliaries.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, videos made available by fans of the portal showed some airport officials clad in face masks and gloves disinfecting the Immigration Portals, the primary and secondary screening areas, quarantine stand, Nigeria Customs Service among others. It was gathered that it was an exercise that will be replicated all over the airports, domestic and international and despite the close of the airports; the opportunity to ensure this is done cannot be overlooked.

All over social media, individuals have continued to ask when such actions would be taking place in the country but the current trend shows that it happens, not just the airports but the airlines, although some have suspended operations. “My brother, it’s not everything you talk about; when you do it someone will always look for what you did not do right. But the truth is, this is what every responsible organization does and you can’t be spraying people when they are flying. Most times, staff do this after flights are done for the day but no one talks about those”, he said.
