The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has proposed a total of N137 billion as capital expenditure for the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) in the 2025 statutory budget, reflecting a renewed push to address infrastructure needs in the FCT’s outlying communities.
The proposal was presented by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during his official budget presentation to the House Committee on FCT, chaired by Hon. Ibrahim Bomai, at the National Assembly.
According to Wike, the overall capital budget for the FCT in 2025 is pegged at N1.29 trillion (₦1,289,690,124,776), accounting for 72.30 per cent of the entire fiscal plan, with a major emphasis on the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects. The new proposal represents an 11 per cent increase compared to the 2024 Revised Appropriation of N1.16 trillion.
Wike noted that of the proposed capital allocation, N137 billion is specifically earmarked for the Satellite Town Development Department, which oversees key infrastructure projects in areas outside the Abuja city centre. He said this allocation is intended to strengthen development in the FCT’s suburban zones and support inclusive urbanisation.
Other Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs) within the FCT were collectively allocated N351.2 billion for their respective capital projects, including a few newly introduced initiatives.
The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), which is central to executing major infrastructural developments in Abuja, was allocated N801.5 billion, making it the biggest single beneficiary of the 2025 capital budget.
For the transportation sector, the FCT administration earmarked N79.3 billion, split into N27 billion for recurrent expenditure and N52.3 billion for capital development, with particular focus on urban mobility, road rehabilitation, and strategic transport projects.
Wike, while defending the proposal, stressed that the budget prioritises completion of legacy projects over new ones to prevent wastage and ensure value for money. “This budget reflects our commitment to deliver results and infrastructure that positively impact the lives of residents,” he stated.
Committee Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Bomai, commended the FCT Minister and his team for presenting a detailed and strategic budget and assured that the committee would give the proposal due legislative scrutiny.
With infrastructure seen as a key driver of economic growth, especially in rapidly urbanising areas, the 2025 FCT budget aims to reduce project abandonment, bridge infrastructure gaps, and boost socio-economic activities across the territory.
