LG Electronics, AXA Mansard Partner to Offer Free Malaria Insurance to Nigerians

by Radarr Africa

LG Electronics has entered into a new partnership with AXA Mansard Health to provide free malaria insurance to Nigerians, with a special focus on supporting LG customers across the country. The initiative, announced on Wednesday, forms part of LG’s Life’s Good Care Campaign, a programme aimed at promoting healthier families and strengthening community well-being nationwide.

The company said the collaboration is driven by the growing need for accessible healthcare support, especially for malaria, which remains one of Nigeria’s most persistent public health challenges. According to the World Health Organisation, nearly a quarter of a billion malaria cases were recorded globally in 2023, with Nigeria accounting for 26 per cent—the highest share of any country. The WHO report also noted that Nigeria, along with several African nations, contributed almost half of the global malaria burden.

LG and AXA Mansard said the free malaria insurance scheme is designed to ease the financial strain that malaria treatment places on households, while helping families access timely and reliable healthcare solutions. The partners explained that the initiative aligns with their shared commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigerians.

Managing Director of LG Electronics West Africa, Mr Hyoung Sub Ji, said the programme reflects LG’s broader mission of contributing positively to society beyond providing home appliances and technology. He stressed that malaria remains both a health and economic threat to many families, and companies must play a role in tackling the problem.

“Malaria continues to pose a serious health and economic threat to millions of families. Our commitment goes beyond innovative technology; it’s about improving lives. Partnering with AXA Mansard allows us to deliver practical healthcare protection to the people who matter most: our customers and communities,” he said.

Also speaking on the partnership, Chief Distribution Officer at AXA Mansard and Director of AXA Mansard Health, Mrs Jumoke Odunlami, said making healthcare affordable and accessible is a priority for the organisation. She explained that malaria remains one of the most preventable diseases, and the new partnership enables the insurance provider to reach more families who need protection.

“We believe that healthcare must be accessible and affordable, especially for malaria, one of the most preventable diseases. By working with LG, we’re expanding the reach of our malaria insurance plans to protect more families and make a meaningful impact.

“One of the key lessons from 2020 is that healthcare remains a universal priority for everyone, regardless of age, gender or background. We must continue to develop sustainable and innovative solutions that always address people’s health needs. This initiative is our way of contributing to the fight against malaria and reducing its impact across the country,” she added.

Under the arrangement, LG customers will have access to AXA Mansard Health’s Standard, Classic and Premium malaria-care plans. These plans are developed to make healthcare more convenient, and each one comes with telemedicine services that allow customers to consult qualified doctors remotely without visiting a hospital. The plans also include access to prescribed medicines at accredited pharmacies, with free delivery available within Lagos.

The Premium Care Plan offers even broader protection, providing comprehensive malaria coverage and access to over 1,000 hospitals nationwide. With this option, customers can receive medical care quickly, regardless of where they live or travel within the country. AXA Mansard noted that the wide hospital network ensures that families have more flexibility and quicker access to treatment.

LG said the partnership reflects its commitment to supporting the well-being of Nigerian families by making healthcare more accessible. The Life’s Good Care Campaign is part of the company’s wider corporate social responsibility focus, which aims to extend care beyond technology and offer real value to communities. The company added that the initiative demonstrates its long-standing dedication to the people it serves, especially at a time when many households continue to face health-related and economic pressures.

As Nigeria continues to fight malaria, partnerships between private companies and healthcare providers are becoming increasingly important. LG and AXA Mansard believe their collaboration will help reduce malaria’s impact by increasing access to diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for many families who may otherwise struggle to afford such services. The initiative is expected to attract strong interest from customers seeking reliable healthcare support as part of their everyday needs.
